About the Item
An exceptionally beautiful Georgian-era ring (circa 1780–1820), crafted in rich 18k gold and set with its original hand-faceted paste “citrine” of remarkable brilliance. This is a museum-worthy example of Georgian jewelry at its most romantic and technically sophisticated—yet entirely wearable today.
A Georgian Paste Gem With Extraordinary Fire. Although the center stone is glass, it is emphatically not ordinary glass. Georgian paste was a luxury material, created by master lapidaries who used a high lead content to increase refractive index, dispersion, and internal fire. Under magnification, the stone reveals the unmistakable optical behavior of high-quality 18th/early 19th-century paste: bright, dynamic flashes and a warm golden glow that rivals natural citrine.
The stone is original to the ring and secured by sixteen hand-cut Georgian prongs, further framed by a tight twist of buttery gold wire—a distinctly Georgian decorative flourish. Every detail reflects hand workmanship from an era before industrialization.

Acquired from the same highly regarded dealer who sourced the exceptional Georgian Stuart crystal earrings recently in my shop—specialists in rare, authentic antiquities and jewels. This is an honest, untouched, and beautifully preserved Georgian treasure.

Thanks to its generous scale and gender-neutral proportions, this ring would make an extraordinary statement or signature ring for a man, yet it is equally beautiful worn alone or as part of a stacked Georgian-inspired grouping.
