About the Item
An interesting Pink color agate 19th Century cameo depicting Hercules and the Nemean Lion (on Hercules’ head). Nemean Lion symbolizes the need to have a strong exterior and not let others sway you.
The relief if the carving shows the details of Hercules’ profile. The Castellani® Juno ring setting has a nice flat bright polished gold frame. The cameo is set below the frame using the same technique that goldsmiths used 2000 years ago. The ring has a nice low profile. The Juno is made with Castellani Ancient Terra-Cotta™ Red 18kt, giving the ring a nice rich gold color that complements the pink color of the cameo. The ring measures 21mm Front to Back 17mm Across 7mm 5mm Height (7/8” Length ¾” Width 3/16” Height). Ring size 6, and is sizable with in 2 finger sizes. The weight of the ring is 12. Grams. The Castellani and Double C Logo plates are affixed to the inside of the gallery.

Fortunato Pio Castellani can be called the "Father of Archeological Revival Jewellery". In the mid 1800's in Rome, Castellani had the entree to visit the Ancient Etruscan ruins. He was able to study these Ancient designs as well as other Ancient Mediterranean civilizations’ jewellery and started to create and re-design under his brand.

Castellani® has selected this Ancient Roman Agate Intaglio for the "Cleopatra" Ring Setting.
The intaglio dates to the 3rd to 7th Century.
The intaglio is both black and white agate, which is a hard stone and very good for carving. The agate has two layers of color, black on the top and white at the bottom. The agate intaglio is solid and is one piece. The carver was able to use these two color layers to give dimension and detail. The Column and Angel on the left wings are white and the balance is all black. The Carver knew the material he/she was carving and used this to create this very unique scene.
The intaglio shows two angels standing on either side of a column/pillar looking at the bust of a man on top of the pillar.
The angels are female and male. The bust on the pedestal is of a male.
The intaglio is set below the frame. The frame flairs out to a subtle point on the sides and has a flat surface.
The "Cleopatra" ring design was a style that Castellani created in the 1860's and was inspired by Ancient Roman rings...

Castellani® commissioned to have this 20.64ct sapphire be hand carved as an intaglio of the mythical character Neptune /Poseidon. Neptune was to the Ancient Romans the god that controlled the waters, winds and storms. The Ancient Greeks called him Poseidon.
The hand carving shows the subject’s face, hair and eyes in very great detail. This large natural sapphire is Sri Lanka origin and No Heat, devoid of any enhancement. All gemological information is on a GIA Gemological Report. The GIA classifies the shape as an Oval Intaglio. The cornflower blue color and the sapphire’s crystal transparency lets the carving be seen easily and is very noticeable.
