About the Item
A luminous and dramatically scaled Georgian foiled-back rock crystal, glowing with warm golden light, crowns this extraordinary ring—an elegant marriage of authentic 18th-century craftsmanship and a thoughtfully executed modern shank for durability and everyday wear.
The large, rose-cut crystal is set beneath its original hand-laid Georgian foil, a technique perfected in England between 1780 and 1820 to amplify sparkle and warmth in candlelit rooms. The gem sits proudly within a classic closed-back silver collet, swollen and domed in the unmistakable Georgian manner, and held by three sculptural shell-shaped prongs—an iconic feature of late 18th-century English paste and rock crystal jewels.
Every detail of the ring head reflects genuine Georgian artistry: the hand-cut facets, the mellowed golden foil, the deeply patinated silver, and the bold architectural presence that only rings of this period possess. These tops were typically worn by the aristocracy as evening jewels, designed to shimmer dramatically beside silk and candlelight.
The shank is a clean, modern sterling silver replacement, crafted to echo the simplicity of period bands while providing strength and comfort. This tasteful update allows the ring to be worn daily without compromising the integrity of the original antique top.
Authentic Georgian ring head, handmade between 1780 and 1820. And they are almost never available in a size a man could wear, as is the case here with this exquisite example.
The large foiled-back rock crystal, displaying warm internal radiance. Classic English closed-back domed setting Three sculptural Georgian prongs—a highly desirable stylistic feature, shaped like scallop shells.
The later modern silver shank is a replacement and makes for comfort, stability, and secure wear. A perfect blend of historic charm and modern practicality.
These rings are cherished by collectors and stylists for their ethereal glow and dramatic finger presence, and examples with such a substantial crystal are increasingly rare.
