About the Item
Dating to the turn of the 20th century, this striking allegorical ring features a young Bacchus (Dionysus) in Neoclassical style as a putto-like child with chubby cheeks crowned in a cluster of of grapes and vines. Opposite him is a Maenad, one of Dionysus' frenzied followers. Between then lies a richly hued bezel-set amethyst - a stone thought to protect the drinker from drunkenness. The name "amethyst" comes from the Greek word "amethystos" meaning "not drunk".
Crafted in a warm, rosy 14k yellow gold, this exceptional ring has been moulded and hand chased with remarkable detail. Currently a ring size 8.
