A fantastic example of Arts
Crafts period jewelry, this ring is handmade from 14K yellow gold and features a cabochon amazonite gemstone in a bezel mounting. Reverse tapered shoulders draw the eye to the unusual gem and its fascinating patterning.

Crafts jewelry flourished from 1870-1920, and emphasized the artistry of jewelry handmade by skilled artisans. Born from a desire to emulate the craftsman guilds of the old world in response to the overwhelming mechanization of the Industrial Revolution, the Arts
Crafts artisans believed in the beauty of pieces that had inherent beauty as a whole, and so focused on “semi-precious” gems (like amazonite, quartz, jade, moonstone,) instead of more valuable gems such as diamonds, sapphires and rubies, believing their creations would survive if they were not so desirable to part out and redesign later on down the road.
William Morris,a champion of the artisan guilds and still famous for his wallpaper and fabric patterns, believed strongly that a piece should be created from beginning to end by a single craftsman. But often, more aesthetically pleasing (and commercially viable) results were yielded from designers who utilized experienced manufacturers and professional jewelers.

Crafts jewelry so wonderful? The movement marks the first time women entered the jewelry industry in any large number - and they were largely successful. The press recognized their contributions and accomplishments, with no discernible difference between their recognition and that of their male counterparts.
Fitting a ring size 8.5, the amazonite is substantially sized at 24.2 mm x 11.5 mm. Hallmarked and tested for 14K yellow gold.
