Old German Ring ,band in solid 18K Yellow Gold band with openwork crown in 18K White Gold decorated with natural old diamond cut Colorless or White Zircon Ø 9 mm x 5.75 mm deep / ca. 4.1 ct . This stone is transparent, clear and very well cut. Apparently this stone was successfully used as a Diamond simulant and looks like very convincing diamond imitation ! Made in Germany ca. 1920s -1930s . Hallmarked 18K , band tested solid 18K Gold. Size : Ø 6 US / 16.51 mm. Crown is 6 mm high. Sizing is possible. Weight: 3.4 grams. Ring is in fine used condition. Stone shows very minor wear to facets. Natural patina on Gold. Foot notes : don’t be confused by the name, Zircon is not Cubic Zirconia ! Zircon is a natural, magnificent, and underrated gemstone that has been worn and treasured since ancient times. Zircon is one of the oldest naturally occurring gemstones in the world, older even than diamond. One crystal found in Jack Hills, Australia was determined to be 4.375 billion years old! This ancient gemstone was also used by ancient people. There are several places in the Old Testament where zircon is mentioned, the most notable being in Exodus, described as one of the gems in the breastplate of Aaron. As a species, Zircon has many interesting characteristics. Some, such as its high refractive index (RI between 1.78 -1.93 ,this stone has RI = 1.79 ) and high dispersion rate, seem to have made it the "natural choice" for a diamond simulant. When properly cut, colorless zircons can make very convincing diamond imitations and even outshine mediocre diamonds. (Interestingly, despite a long history as a diamond substitute, zircon is actually rarer than diamond). Most of the items that we sell are not new at all if not stated otherwise. Accordingly, most of the items most often show some signs of use. We do our best to photograph and describe condition as accurately as possible if we notice something. There is no point in hiding anything or lying about the condition of used items that are at least several decades old.. Gemstones may often look differently in different light and weather conditions and time of the day, both indoors and outdoors. Stones of the rings photographed alone may look a bit differently when on hand because your finger makes the back side of the stone closed and light no longer can go through and the color becomes different. Stones with closed backs may seem darker than stones with open backs. Such nuances of color perception do not give any excuse to claim item to be not as described. " there are inclusions that I didn't notice " "it looks smaller than I expected" .. Unfortunately Internet sales do not allow us to see the items in person before we get them by post. Minor color deviations may be possible. CUSTOM WORK : About Resizing: Resizing of rings can be done on request.The work will be done by experienced professional jeweler. Note: I will not be responsible for any physical/color changes that may occur as a result of heating of the stones during the process of resizing. We will not be responsible if in the process of resizing or customization any stone on the ring becomes loose , if any deformation occurs in general or if band of the ring changes shape or becomes deformed. Polishing of the band is always a final step of any resizing but machinery used for polishing causes vibration that old rings (with prongs for example ) often do not like at all. It is often difficult or impossible to get an accurate characteristics of the weight , color and nature of inclusions without removing the stones from the settings to be weighed and examined and doing that may damage the piece.
