This is a bold piece with real presence. A 9ct gold ring carrying an emerald-mixed–cut citrine like this wasn’t made to whisper; it was made to show off clean geometry and a hit of warm color. At 6.9 grams and a size R UK/8.5 USA/CA, it has the weight and proportions you’d expect from mid-20th-century workshop work, when makers weren’t shy about using substantial mounts to frame a strong stone. Citrine had a serious moment from the 1930s through the 1970s. It fit perfectly into the era’s taste for sunny, optimistic stones and sharp, architectural cuts. The emerald-style facets on this one tell the story: long, mirror-like steps paired with a mixed top that catches light more aggressively. That combination was popular with British and European jewellers who wanted sparkle without losing the clean lines of the emerald cut.
The gold mount follows the same logic—straight shoulders, sturdy claws, nothing fussy. Pieces like this were often sold by independent high-street jewellers who sourced good natural citrine from Brazil, which dominated the market at the time.
