This 18ct Yellow Gold Memento Mori Diamond Skull and Snake ring is stunning. Skull jewellery (Memento Mori) is very collectable. Memento Mori means -Remember that you must die- and to cherish each day as it is a reminder of the imminence of both death and the hazards of life. During the 17th Century Memento Mori jewellery was decorated with skulls, crossbones, skeletons, coffins, and worms which all seems very macabre to us today. Beautiful Diamonds are set into the central skulls eyes. The Diamonds have superb clarity and colour, captivating the allure of natures beauty. Diamond is the hardest mineral on Earth and this combined with its exceptional lustre and brilliant fire has made it the most highly prized of all gems. Serpent jewellery became popular during the early years of Queen Victoria’s reign coinciding with the full flowering of the Romantic Movement. Snakes represent friendship and eternal love. The two snakes are crowned with beautiful gemstones, one a deep blue Sapphire and the other a rich red Ruby. The Ruby is considered to be the most powerful gem of the universe, given as a gift, the ruby is a symbol of friendship and love. Sapphire is the symbol of feelings of sympathy, harmony friendship and loyalty, everything that is constant and reliable. Sapphire was called the -Stone of destiny- Sapphires contribute to mental clarity and perception, they bring peace and harmony to the wearer. Beautiful workmanship throughout, a great talking piece.
