This exceptional pair of antique Victorian cast sterling silver gilt grape shears has a hinged scissor action.
The handles of these grape scissors are embellished with plain intertwining stems to double antique dolphin decorated fingerpieces, accented with details reproducing the scales, in addition to a shell motif.
The circular hinged portion is embellished with a man in the moon mask design.
The grape shears are fitted with flat engraved scrolling leaf decorated blades, with a rounded outer edge.
These exceptional examples of 19th century silver flatware retain the original gilding.

Comprised of silver-gilt, these two pairs of beautifully crafted grape shears were designed and manufactured in by famed London silversmiths William Eley and William Fearn. The pairs’ handles are cast elegantly with Bacchanal motifs of fruiting grape vines and baskets bursting with fresh produce. Once used for snipping grapes, these Regency-period scissors bear the monogram “AD” for their original 1815 owner and boast an impressive royal English provenance.
