About the Item

A set of four matching George III sterling silver wine coasters, with embossed floral and scroll decoration to a wooden bases with central silver bosses. Hallmarked Sheffield 1815-1818. Maker John Thomas Settle. ARV The sides with embossed floral and scroll decoration the turned wood bases with central silver bosses, diameter 16cm. (4) A handsome set of four George III silver wine coasters. Wine coasters became widely used in the late eighteenth century and were used to hold bottles and decanters of wine. The sides of these wine coasters are decorated with ornate embossed floral and scroll motifs. This design carries to the detailed rim of the coaster, adding further detail. The base of the coaster is turned wood with a smooth central silver boss. This set of wine coasters is a perfect addition to a dinner party for holding decanters or bottles of wine. This set comes from the collection of Bentley Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to His Majesty the King.
