About the Item

This is a rare museum quality set of Four Norwegian Mid-Century Modernist Enameled Sterling Silver Candlesticks by N.M. Thune of Norway and dating to the 20th century. Each candlestick is adorned with magnificent enamel images with depictions of Norse Mythology and Viking imagery. The colors and design are mid-century magnificence. The very rare group of candlesticks is made by the esteemed maker N.M Thune who are renowned for their beautiful silver work adorned with enamel. The candlesticks are extremely rare. The candlesticks each have three different images around the stem which include horses, raven and wolf, and scenes from the Norse Viking Mythology. Around the base are inscribed phrases in old norse. The candlesticks are hallmarked Thune 925S. We also have a set of six smaller candlesticks by Thune with similar Viking imagery available from the same estate - I have included a picture of these. Pieces by N.M Thune are rare and highly desirable as objects of Mid-Century Modern design. Their use of silver and enamel is of the highest quality and their designs based on antique Scandinavian motifs are particularly wonderful. The bold use of the enamel colors is particularly striking. The candlesticks are 5 1/2 inches (14.5cm) tall. The base is 4 1/2 inches (11cm) wide.
