About the Item

Antique Swedish Centerpiece in solid 830 grade Silver with a realistic depiction of a cute Indian Elephant standing on lavishly decorated base supporting a bowl with gilt interior trimmed with leaves on the edge. Measures - about 18 cm high x 19.5 cm at opening's diameter x 15 cm wide at base. Weight: 411 grams. Hallmarked with Swedish hallmarks that confirm at least 830 purity, name of maker is not readable, Year combination V4 / hand - made in 1852. Worn engraved inscription on the bowl in Swedish : " Till Carl Torssel af Lyriska Seenens Artister den 18 jan. 1868 " ~ To Carl Torssel from Lyrical Stage Artists on 18th January 1868. In fine used condition for such an old thing. I suspect that there are some minor traces of an old accurate reinforcing repair / soldering between the bowl and the elephant's back one one side that can be noticed under magnification. On the rim of the bowl six tips of leaves are missing, one tip is cracked. Otherwise : minor wear to gilding, possibly very minor dents, deformations and scratches. Natural tarnish / patina on Silver. All square nuts underneath are originals. Most of the items that we sell at Atelier De Montplaisir are not new at all if not stated otherwise.
