Rare Art Deco Gilt Guilloche Enamel Teaspoon Set in Original Leather Case Of pure 1920s extravagance with a custom rainbow of gilt, guilloche enamelled Art Deco spoons in the English style, all contained in the original tooled brown fanned leather case. The long-held tradition of collecting antique and speciality spoons goes all the way back to the 1800s in Europe when leisure tourism was just beginning to take hold. One of the ways well-to-do lords and ladies would demonstrate all the places they had travelled was to display custom collectable spoons from the regions. The tradition of souvenir spoons soon made its way to the United States, and the hobby was born. The unique features of this particular set are the multi-coloured gilt Guilloche enamel. The six different colours are infused into the English-styled spoons measuring 2cm (0.8”) in width by 9.5cm (3.7”) in length. Each spoon carries the hallmark of 1928 creation by local English artisans who fuse Art Deco with elegance. A special feature of this piece is the included fan-shaped tooled leather box with a clasp and soft interior to protect the spoons. This would have typically been created for a jewellery maker, but it found its use with these great spoons instead. The box dimensions are 15.5cm by 12.5cm. ------------------------------ Condition Report: In excellent condition with minor wear to the enamel as depicted and ageing commensurate with time.
