About the Item
This sterling silver sauce ladle was made during the reign of George III in London. The piece which is very simple in design is hallmarked for manufacture by William Bateman of the famed Bateman silversmithing family. To the handle there is a family crest likely for the original owner which is in the form of a stylised fleur-de-lys. The datemark indicates manufacture in London in 1816, the tail end of the reign of George III. The ladle presents in very good antique condition with the normal wear and abrasions associated with age and use. A gorgeous example of restrained Georgian silver.
