About the Item
This large sterling silver straining spoon was made in London in 1801 and is a beautiful example of Georgian silver from the early 19th Century. The spoon is assayed for manufacture in 1801 by Peter, Ann
William Bateman, of the famed Bateman silversmithing family. Very simple in its design the spoon features an ornate crest and monogram to the handle 'OPMH' which sits above an engraved mythical sea creature. The spoon presents in very good condition for a piece of silver from the reign of George III. A beautiful example of the fine workmanship that was being produced by the Bateman family in the early 19th Century.
