Vintage from the 1972
In 1872 (Meiji 15) the first railway opened between Shinbashi in Tokyo and Yokohama. On the 14th of October 1972, the Japanese Postal Ministry issued a series of commemorative stamps on the occasion of the 100 year anniversary of the first railway opening. These stamps have been wonderfully recreated in the form of pure silver proofs by Matsumoto Kisho Ltd. The proofs have inscribed the Japan mint certification - the Japan flag and fineness 1000 (100%) inside the rhomb, in addition to the characters 純銀 Jun-Gin - Pure Silver and the makers mark for Matsumoto Kisho Ltd.
Measuring 38mm x 28mm each stamp weighs 15g. They are presented in a luxurious presentation case. The inside of the lid has embossed 鉄道百年記念 (tetsu-do-hyaku-nen-ki-nen) - 100 year Commemoration of the Railway. Underneath is the year 1972 (sho-wa-47). The bottom left says made by Matsumoto Kisho Ltd.

The company regularly, produces and sells unique and limited edition commemorative medals which have the Japan Mint Certification Mark of Precious Metal Wares (Hallmark).
