1830 Turquoise Lapel Gold Pocket Watch Bautte and Co with Chain and Locket

Josephine de Bauharnais could be wearing this incredible blue turquoise watch on an incredible dress... A yellow gold pocket watch made in Geneva Switzerland signed Jn, Fr, Bautte C. It's beautiful inside and out. The detail of the watch box is so intricate and ornamented that it is mesmerizing. The multiple sizes of turquoise cabochons are so well set that you feel the craft of the case. The dial is in yellow gold with Roman numerals in turquoise and a delicately covered pin as well. This museum-like piece is in perfect working condition (to be wound) and has a little gold locket where you can put the picture of a loved one. The most sublime part is watching it keep time. It qualifies as a museum piece, rare and beautiful. It's history is fascinating as well. In 1859, a watch maker from France moved to London, 4 Hanover Street, to start his shop to fix watches. His name was Desoutter and he purchased this watch from one of his royal clients. The watch remained in the family house for generations until recently when his great, great, grandson came to us to sell it; 189 years after it was made. J.F Bautte Geneva bijoutiers horlogers (makers of watches, watch cases, snuff boxes and other small objects of vertu) in the first half of the 19th century was Jean-François Bautte (1772-1837). Jean-François was the son of Abraham Bautte, an enameller and partner in 1765 of Louis Galopin, and his wife Marie Anne Mare. On 19 May 1789, he was formally apprenticed to Moulinié Blanchot, watchcase makers, both of whom had been received as masters the previous year. Jacques-Dauphin Moulinié (1761-1838) and Jean-François Bautte registered a company together in 1796.
