Victorian French key wound gold locket-watch by Boudin Freres circa 1850. * ABOUT THIS ITEM: #W1175. Scroll down for detailed specifications. This is an early Victorian treasure dating to the middle of the nineteenth century, beautifully preserved, and presented as a gift later in 1906 to Mademoiselle Henriette Debray. Isn’t that romantic? We don’t consider it a timepiece for today’s digital timekeeping ways. Rather, it is a gorgeous work of art that can be worn, as we like to say, wearable art. Having front and back covers makes it suitable for using it as a locket. The white porcelain dial features delicate hands, Roman numerals, and secondary markers, all black. The mechanism is wound with a small key, and yes, it does come with a key. It is easy to tell which side of the locket is the one with the dial. Simply look for the tiny gemstone set in the pendant part of the watch. SPECIFICATIONS: METAL: 18-karat yellow gold. WEIGHT: 32.9 grams. HALLMARKS: signed Boudin Freres, Geneve, No. 17289. MEASUREMENTS: approximately 1-7/8” (4.76 cm) long including the bow and 1-7/16” (3.65 cm) wide overall.
