This fantastic watch by the iconic American House of Howard is in exceptional condition. It is all original and the Kiln Fired Enamel Dial is flawless. We never see enamel dials in such fine condition and the watch still has its original Blued Steel Hands. These hands are fired as well in a furnace at about 600 degrees to get this rich blue hue. Our finest master watchmaker has just finished a factory quality service on the watch and remarkably, it still has its original factory rating on it. This watch is exceptional in all ways. The case back is beautifully engraved with the monogram of J.J.H. if you like the watch, but not the engraving we can put a solid gold plaque over it. This watch is also offered with a wonderful period chain, we have never seen this chain before and it suits the watch wonderfully. If you are looking for a strong gift, this is the item.
HOWARD HISTORY
One of the most respected names in American watch making, was the house founded by Edward Howard in Boston Massachusetts in 1858. Howard was an exceptional watchmaker who had worked originally for the Willard Clock Company. Willard was the premier American clock maker and advanced American horology. Howard’s exceptional designs and innovations helped establish America as a watchmaking capital along with the Waltham Watch Company. Howard’s creativity helped establish the principles of industrialization and standardized parts. Howards watches were rugged and very accurate as well. Their case designs were innovative as well. Howard watches were used by scientists and engineers in military and industry because they were rugged and dependable.
In 1903, the Howard Watch Company was acquired by the Keystone Watch Case Company. Keystone continued to produce Howard watches under the Howard brand name until 1935. By that time the great depression had taken its toll on all but the most robust watch companies. During the 1920’s Howard produced the 12-size caliber which was a beautifully finished watch that kept exceptional time. It was also one of the few American watches that met most of the standards of what is called a “Geneva Seal'' movement. A Geneva Seal was only available to watches that met a series of exceptional manufacturing criteria. Of course, being made in Geneva was one of the criteria, so Howard could not actually meet that one. However, it did meet nearly all the other important criteria. This set Howard apart from all the other American Watch Companies. The average Howard watch will last hundreds of years with just average maintenance.
This pocket watch can be worn with various clothing for all occasions from formal to casual such as with a suit, or even a sports coat and a pair of pants. Own not only a piece of history, but also an elegant, exceptional, accurate timepiece that you can add to your collection and pass down.

This is a "vault find" watch, it has been locked up for nearly 50 years, which means it needs a service. We will service it for you as part of the purchase price before it is shipped out to you. This will delay shipping for a few days of course.
LIFETIME SERVICE COMMITMENT
This great looking and classic man's pocket watch is still fitted with a flawless and original Kiln Fired Dial. These dials were made of glass and fired in a furnace at 1500 degrees. The watch is all original as well, still with its original blued steel hands. The watch is very dependable even now, but it should be serviced (which we will do included in the price). The cuvette is finely engraved with a presentation to a Captain Keller. Wherever he is, his watch is still running and will continue to run for another 200 years with a service occasionally.
