About the Item
A Rare 18ct Rose Gold Keywind Quarter Repeater Musical Pocket Watch C1820. This Pocket Watch is signed Breguet but was not made by Abraham Louis Breguet.
Dial: The white enamel dial with Breguet style numeral outer minute track signed Breguet under the six o'clock. The original blued steel spear like hands, not typical of the Breguet moon hands which were normally used. There is some slight damage to the dial at five o' clock which is consummate with the age of the watch. The dial is protected by a mineral glass.
Case: The large and impressive heavy (162grms) 18ct rose gold case with engine turning radiating out from a vacant oval cartouche at the bottom of the rear cover. The outer edge of the case has a beautiful raised scene of animals grazing being looked after by a girl playing a musical instrument and dogs hunting deer with a hunter waiting to catch the deer. The back cover opens to reveal a gilt metal cover which is signed Breguet, numbered and written in French how to wind the watch and wind the musical barrel with the Breguet style key. The cases are French hallmarked and numbered.
Movement: The movement is very important and rare as this is a musical watch with a difference. Normal musical watches have a horizontal barrel with the teeth on to play music. This watch has a vertical barrel which is very rare to see. The quality of this watch is amazing. It has a pierced and engraved bridge cock with a rose cut diamond endstone, fast slow regulation and stop work in steel on the back plate. The escapement is a cylinder the steel gongs are visible where the hammers strike the hours and quarters clearly.
This watch was never made in the Breguet workshops. It was made by a very competent watchmaker who obviously rode on the fame of Breguet. Breguet never made musical watches. This watch is very rare indeed because of the layout of the musical work. It would make an excellent addition to ones collection. We sell this watch with our own certificate of authenticity.

Dial: A superb 18ct gold dial with raised Roman gold numerals outer dotted minute track and engine turned centre. The original blued steel Breguet moon hands complimenting the dial beautifully.
Case: The excellent heavy rose gold case English hallmarked for London 1818 with engine turned back cover. The inner cover numbered and signed Des Granges Late Recordon Cockspur Street Charing Cross London. The case maker was Thomas Hardy, a very famouse case maker of his time. The top of the pendant lifts up and turns then is depressed to make the watch chime.
Movement: The gilt metal finished movement with a flat arm balance, slow fast regulation Duplex escapement hanging barrel and the wheels for the repeating works visible. The hammers and gongs are also visable. The watch chimes the hours and quarters clearly.
This watch is indeed rare and important as it is double signed by Des Granges late Recordon who was the main agent in London for Abraham Louis Breguet. It also has a Duplex escapement which was used to achieve a higher accuracy of time keeping. Des Granges was a pupil of Josiah Emery...
