A shameless plug for me. This watch would have been period perfect for a movie that is being released this month. I was fortunate enough to supply the “Period Correct” watches for this movie. The movies time frame is 1918 to 1926. It is called “Flowers of The Killer Moon” I was responsible for supplying many of the timepieces. It is a Martin Scorsese film starring Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brendan Fraser, Lily Gladstone and many more. This watch would fit right in the that era! Simple, elegant, understated, yet sophisticated. A classic case that less is more! Elgin “Square” Art Deco design in 14 karat white gold fill, 1925. The distinctive Art Deco stylized black numerals makes this a treasure “Past-Time” treasure to own. (pun intended) Elgin historically had designed and manufactured some of the most iconic Art Deco watches of the 1920’s and 30’s, men and women. They pushed the design envelope using enamel in black and colors, they design includes inspirations from well know Art Deco furniture and building design. The watch is housed in a correct Elgin specific case, many early wristwatches used cases from third party case manufacturers, this case was manufactured by the renowned case manufacturing company, Fahy’s. It is in excellent condition with one of two nibbles of case wear, it is very hard to see. It is remarkable that a case this old would wear so well all these years, a testament to the quality of manufacturing. The case back is in excellent condition with a distinctive Art Deco engraved monogram that has a story that has yet to be told, we will never know. Don’t you love a good mystery. The case has been gently hand polished. Please keep in mind that vintage watches are typically smaller in size, they are not the big pieces today. The do not have the modern seals that todays watches have. The wristwatch really was born from WW1, WW1 ended in 1918. So, this Elgin was introduced as a cutting-edge wristwatch in 1925, think of it as this, a start up wrist watch company! The case measures 36MM long and 28MM wide, The original dial is beautiful. The watch has a brand new crystal. This survivor has a Elgin 430, 7 jewel manual wind movement. It has been serviced and runs very well. The movement has these specifications: Elgin Grade 430 Serial 27177893 Model 1 Year of Production 1925 Size 6/0 Configuration Hunting ( stem and crown at 3 o’clock)
