About the Item

NAMED ONE OF WATCHPRO MAGAZINE’S “HOT 100” - THE TOP 100 INFLUENCERS OF THE U.S. WATCH INDUSTRY. HOW CAN WE SERVE YOU? We’re new to offering our carefully curated collection on 1stDibs, but we have sold over 10,000 fine watches and exceptionally served thousands of customers with a 5.0 star rating. 1972 OMEGA DYNAMIC Vintage Mens Large 39mm Cal. 565 Watch with Quick-Setting Date - Stainless Steel Gorgeous Original Condition - Interesting Distinctive - 1 Year Warranty Created in 1967 by Omega's sales director Robert Forster, the Dynamic is an iconic example of a true retro style. The clean and functional watch, a considerable success for Omega, possessed a number of designed elements that made it stand out: An ellipse shape with recessed crown determined to be the best geometric shape for the wrist, determined after extensive study Unicoc case with hermetically sealed crystal water-resistant to a depth of 30m. Available with a stainless steel bracelet or easily interchangeable water-resistant Cor-fam straps According to an Omega advertisement at the time, "The shape of the Omega Dynamic was determined by the anatomy of your wrist; its dial by the workings of your eyes; it strap by the physiology of your skin." We are pleased to offer this uncommon, extra large and all-original model, ref. 166.081, from the first generation Dynamic line. It has an original semi-crosshair dial with "wide boy" retro styled indices. From our experience it is the most uncommon reference in the early Dynamic line and was only branded "Geneve", although period advertisements show it was sold under the "Geneve Dynamic" line. It is the only non-oval Dynamic case in the early line and like all other Dynamics uses the same interchangeable strap or bracelet design. At over 39mm in diameter not including the crown, this big fellow fills out even a full size wrist. As one of the early Dynamics, before Omega switches to using the 1000 series movements for the line, it is powered by Omega's high-grade caliber 565. Omega's top-tier caliber 565 movement, one of the last superior 500's series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs, was the top-tier offering of the 500 series. It has 24 jewels and a quick-setting date and is arguably the finest mass-produced automatic movement from era. It has all of its original parts and presents in gorgeous condition. Its steel case presents as mint with strong lines and only light signs of previous polishing. Despite what the photos seem to suggest, the lightly engraved printing on the back is still visible, just light. On the wrist it presents as gorgeous mint. Its original dial is mint. Its original Omega bracelet presents as mint with virtually no stretch. And its fine, automatic Omega has just been overhauled by a Master Watchmaker. It is running very strong and true, keeping very accurate time. A more than fifty year old Dynamic that presents like new on the wrist! Please note: An example of this watch resides in the Omega museum, and a published example can be found in Marco Richon's work Omega: A Journey Through Time, 2007, pg. 483. Your watch is important to us, and we will take care of it for its lifetime. We provide the best after sale care in the business with an extremely experienced team of four Master Watchmakers all of whom each have over thirty-five years of experience and a large number of parts. One used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealership and was given special training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center.
