About the Item

Lucite rectangular wristwatch designed by Gucci. This is an ultra modernist lady wristwatch, created in Firenze Italy by the luxury and fashion house of Gucci, back in the 1980. The elusive vintage wristwatch have been crafted in translucent mauve-brownish Lucite and is fitted with a rigid curved wristband. It was masterfully designed with sleek, minimalist and geometric patterns. This is a gorgeous timepiece made forty-five years ago during the Memphis artistic movement with a circular face and is presented in the original Gucci box. The Memphis style Was emerged in 1980, when the Italian designer and architect Ettore Sottsass founded a group of artists and designers called Memphis. Bob Dylan’s song 'Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again' was playing on repeat during the group’s first meeting, which led to the group being named 'Memphis'. After the inaugural meeting, the group decided that they would meet again in February 1981. The members brought over 100 drawings with them, picturing a variety of bold, colorful designs with multiple stylistic influences. The Memphis Group went on to create furniture, fabrics, patterns, ceramics and other products in a distinctly Postmodern style that blended stylistic traits of 1950s kitsch, Art Deco, and Pop Art. If you love unashamedly brash and bold colors and patterns, you’ll be very happy to hear that the Memphis Style, the design style pioneered by the 1980s Memphis Group, is very much back in vogue. Movement: Mechanical, hand winding, 17 jewels. Dial: Round, golden, plain analog with golden hands and signed Gucci Italy. Weight: 14.95 Grams, (9.58 Dwt). Size: 7 Inches, (18 Cm). Measurements: 40 mm by 20 mm (1.57 x 0.79 Inches). Lug: 4 mm Hallmarks: Marked with Italian marks; the maker's mark and signed in full, "GUCCI ITALY PATENT PENDING". Gucci This company was founded in 1921 in the Tuscany region of Italy, in Florence , when Guccio Gucci bought his own shop on 7, Via della Vigna Nuova in Florence, Azienda Individuale Guccio Gucci, where he sold imported leather luggage. He also opened a small workshop to have his own leather goods made by local craftsmen. Eventually, a larger workshop had to be acquired to house Gucci's 60 artisans. In 1935 the invasion of Ethiopia by Mussolini led the League of Nations to impose a trade embargo on Italy. Leather became scarce, pushing Guccio Gucci to introduce other fabrics in the composition of the products, such as raffia, wicker, wood, linen and, jute. The rhombi motif, a Gucci signature, was created. The Gucci's developed a new tanning technique to produce "cuoio grasso", which became a Gucci trademark. In 1937, Gucci launched its handbags. Under the direction of Aldo Gucci (son of Guccio), Gucci became a worldwide-known brand, an icon of the Italian Dolce Vita. During the 2010s, Gucci became an iconic 'geek-chic' brand.
