There are watches that tell time, and there are watches that tell stories about their time. This distinctive Pierre Cardin Espace, engineered by Jaeger, belongs firmly in the latter category. Conceived at the dawn of the 1970's, when the optimism of the space age collided with the precision of Swiss horology, it embodies an era when imagination seemed limitless.
It was haute couture meeting Swiss horology: a daring wrist sculpture built by a prestigious manufacturer.. A flowing stainless-steel cuff, with a long, graceful curvature and minimalist geometry, cradles a round display that seems to hover within its frame — like a lunar portal in wearable form.
Cardin’s vision in the early 1970s was not simply to make a watch, but to cast the wrist as a canvas of futuristic design. He wasn't content to simply follow fashion; he sculpted it. His Espace series blurred the line between object and artwork, drawing inspiration from the aerodynamics of rockets, the clean geometry of modern architecture, and the visionary culture of futurism that defined his era.
This watch was not designed to disappear under a cuff—it is large and was meant to command attention. The long, fluid stainless-steel body wraps gracefully around the wrist, a minimalist curve that feels less like a watch and more like a piece of wearable sculpture. We were fortunate to aquire it in all-original condition down to the band and buckle.
Its case appears to have never been polished and is in excellent condition with light wear. Its untouched original dial is just short of perfect mint.
One of our Master Watchmakers has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, reassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $695 value).
It continues to keep very accurate time.

Pierre Cardin
Best known for creating groundbreaking fashion designs from the 1950s onward, Pierre Cardin enjoyed great success in other design fields, most notably furniture. Cardin’s chairs, cabinets, tables and other pieces share many of the keynotes of his clothing designs. They are simple, geometric, elegant and cool.
Cardin was born in a village near Venice, Italy, and raised in central France. Always interested in fashion, he left home at age 17 to train with a Vichy tailor. After the end of World War II, Cardin moved to Paris and worked for a succession of couture houses, before taking a job with Christian Dior in 1946. Cardin went solo in 1950, and quickly won attention for his novel style.
Unlike Dior’s famous New Look, Cardin’s clothes de-emphasized a woman’s curves; his breakthrough pieces like the Bubble dress had, instead, a sculptural quality. In the following decade, Cardin introduced bright tunic dresses and shifts, marketed as the Space Age look and accessorized with vinyl hats and visors.
In the 1970s Cardin expanded his design work into furniture, jewelry and automobiles. (Later, licensing agreements would put Cardin’s name on goods ranging from perfume to sunglasses.) Cardin’s furniture pieces — inspired, perhaps, by the rediscovery of Art Deco design in that decade — feature simple, symmetrical forms, lacquer and figured veneer finishes, and accents in metals such as aluminum and brass.
