This impeccably crafted and extremely rare gold watch from Gerrard & Co —the royal jeweler at the time— was created in 1988 and apparently placed directly into a time capsule because the watch is unworn. With a face measuring 35.44mm west to east including the winding crown and 41.53mm. from lug to lug, this 9.48mm-thick watch has sleek and elegant proportions. A 9mm round sub-dial with crosshair marks occupies the six o'clock position on the face and features a crisp gold second-hand loyally traveling around and around above a raised-relief spiral guilloche texture. The watch keeps good time and appears to lose about two minutes a day, which is quite respectable. The 17-jewel Swiss movement is by Unitas. "GARRARD" is printed on the dial beneath the twelve o'clock numeral. Still in its original blue leatherette hard-shell case with blue velvet lining, even the tan leather band is original and has never been fastened around a wrist. Garrard & Co made many manual watches similar to this one in 9K yellow gold, which were frequently gifted to loyal employees of companies throughout England and inscribed on the rear of the case. What makes this watch so utterly remarkable, rare and collectible is its unmolested condition. There is simply no evidence of wear and certainly no inscriptions on the back. I have always been obsessed with Garrard and I love these classic 9k gold watches...
