"Delightful Desert Day"

Located in Scottsdale, AZ
"The comment I hear most often about my paintings is 'happy'". I've loved art all of my life and it warms my heart to know that I'm able to pass that love and joy on to others. I use color and shape to capture the wonders of the world around me. Her love affair with art began as a child, when her favorite present was a new box of Crayola crayons...

Milford Zornes Original Watercolor - From Dana Point
By James Milford Zornes
Located in Phoenix, AZ
California Image by well known watercolorist Milford Zornes (1908-2008). This work in mint condition, is signed lower right “Zornes,” and dated ‘67. The watercolor is also signed on the verso ‘Milford Zornes, ANA’ and titled “From Dana Point.” This painting is unframed and measures 21"h x 27"w. It’s a beautiful depiction of Dana Point in Orange County. A prominent artist in the watercolor movement known as the California Style, Milford Zornes became especially known for his application of watercolor in broad brush strokes to large sheets of paper. He was born in Camargo, Oklahoma, and moved to Los Angeles while a teenager. In Santa Maria, California, he enrolled in Santa Maria Junior College, where he had art instruction from Stanley Breneiser and lived for a period of time with him and his wife, Babs Breneiser who was an art teacher at the local high school. Then at age 20, he began adventurous travel that took him across the United States that had him working on the docks of New York City, and then shipping out to Denmark as a merchant seaman, a job that eventually led to a tour of Europe. He returned to Los Angeles by 1930, and studied at the Otis Art Institute with F. Tolles Chamberlain, and at Pomona College where Millard Sheets was his teacher. Throughout the 1930s, he was exhibiting widely including the 1938 Art Institute of Chicago International Watercolor Exhibition, Seventeenth Year. Zornes did murals during World War II for the Federal Arts Project of the W.P.A., and was a United States Army artist correspondent in Burma and India. Because of the distinction of his W.P.A. and other wartime artwork, he was honored with a one-person exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC, and one of his paintings was selected by President and Mrs. Franklin Roosevelt for the White House Collection. This attention brought him much positive publicity. After the war, he lived in several locations in California and in 1963, Milford and his wife Pat, bought the Maynard Dixon summer home and studio in Salt Lake City, Utah from Edith Hamlin...

"Nature s Solitude"
By Gary Ernest Smith
Located in Scottsdale, AZ
Lauded by critics and collectors alike, the art of Gary Ernest Smith resonates in the mind and memory of contemporary America. Over the past years the artist’s one-man shows have attracted the attention of collectors from coast to coast. His three year exhibit, “Journey I Search of Lost Images” hung in 22 museums and institutes across the United States. In an exhibit curated by the Brooklyn Museum of Art, his work toured the New Orleans Contemporary Art Center, San Jose Museum of Art, the Palm Springs Desert Museum and many more prestigious art institutions. Although he must strictly limit the number of commissions he accepts, his mural size paintings are highly prized by corporate collectors. Gary Ernest Smith was born and raised in a relatively isolated farm community 25 miles northeast of Baker City, Oregon. His interests and intensity for painting began at an early age and progressed through college degrees, numerous commissions and awards to a full time pursuit of painting. The commission work that dominated the early years eventually stifled his creativity. Dissatisfaction with this career direction forced him to reach inward and search beyond popular style and accepted artistic norms to a personal vision. Following years of artistic training and experimentation, subject matter began to emerge based on the artist’s background of a rural life-style that celebrates the values of hard work and self-reliance. These aspects of Smith’s life came together and became the catalyst for his distinctive style. Living in the west, his work is primarily of that region, but it is not western in the traditional sense. Although it defies precise classification, the artist considers his style “minimal” and seeks to express the essence and simplicity of each subject. Whatever the focus might be, his work expresses the artistic elements of bold form and color. These two components become the vehicle that melds the style and subject into a symbolic visual language, expanding the artistic appeal beyond the west...

Ralph Love Oil on Canvas of the Grand Canyon - After the Rain
Located in Phoenix, AZ
Oil Painting on canvas by California artist Ralph Love created 1985. Signed and dated lower left. Oil on Canvas in excellent condition and nicely framed. Beautiful rendition of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Measures 24 x 36 inches. Signed, dated and titled on the verso "After the Rain." Frame size: 34 x 46. Ralph Love was born in Los Angeles, California in 1907. He died in 1992 in Escondido, California. For many years, Ralph Love taught as well as painted. On rainy days, his class would meet in the old Art Shack in Temecula, California, which Love opened in the mid-fifties. It was from this Art Shack that his work received national recognition. Ralph Love was perhaps most well-known for painting the Grand Canyon and California landscapes. "Arizona Life" (magazine) featured his work on the cover and on the inside spread, showing several of his original oils. Senator Barry Goldwater owned several of Love's Grand Canyon paintings, and a letter from him stated,"...Love is the finest living American artist I know, and I could look at his work all day long." Southern Woman Artist Grace Martin Taylor Watercolor - West Palm Beach
Located in Phoenix, AZ
Early Watercolor of West Palm Beach by Southern Woman Artist Grace Martin (Frame) Taylor. The work is in excellent condition and nicely framed under glass. Painting measures 11"h x 14"w. The frame is 19 5/8"h and 22"w. The watercolor is signed and dated lower left and also titled and dated in graphite as well. Grace Martin Frame Taylor (1903-1995), a native of Morgantown, West Virginia, launched a nearly forty-year affiliation with the Mason College of Music and Fine Arts, now part of the University of Charleston in West Virginia. In 1921, Taylor enrolled at the University of West Virginia in her hometown; disappointed by the art curriculum, however, she left after just one year to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She returned to the University of West Virginia in 1924 to finish her bachelor’s degree, selecting English as her major, with an emphasis on journalism; she eventually earned a master’s degree there in 1929. Following her graduation, Taylor went to Provincetown, Massachusetts, and renewed her interest in art under the guidance of her distant cousin Blanche Lazzell. Both Provincetown and Lazzell had gained a significant reputation for a particular kind of color woodblock printmaking known as the white line method. Grace Taylor embraced this approach wholeheartedly; for twenty-eight summers she returned to Provincetown to advance her printmaking skills with Lazzell and Heinrich Pfeiffer. In the ensuing decades, she also studied under Hans Hofmann whom she called her “very favorite modern master.” Taylor traveled to other destinations to further her education. In the late 1930s and early 1940s, she spent time at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh; closer to home, she studied at the Old White Art Colony in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, and took lessons in portraiture in the capital city of Charleston...
