Elegant 1844 Lithograph of a Persian Woman in Traditional Attire
Located in Langweer, NL
This handcoloured lithograph titled "Femme Persane" vividly captures the traditional attire of a Persian woman, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and detailed craftsmanship of 19th-century Persia.
The print is part of Auguste Wahlen's "Moeurs, Usages et Costumes de tous les Peuples de Monde," published in 1844 in Paris.
The image stands out for its intricate detailing, especially the veil and robe, which are adorned with elaborate patterns and vibrant colors typical of Persian fashion.
The woman's attire includes a veil that covers the face partially, known as a "ruband," which was commonly worn in public by women in some regions of Persia as a sign of modesty and status. Her robe, layered and colorful, reflects the sophisticated textile techniques of the time, including embroidery and fabric dyeing, which were highly regarded skills in Persian society.
The attractiveness of such prints lies in their ability to convey the elegance and intricacy of Persian women's fashion, providing a window into the everyday life and social customs of the time.
The use of handcoloured lithography, a popular printing technique of the era, allows for vivid coloration and detailed representation, making these prints highly desirable for collectors and enthusiasts of historical fashion and cultural heritage.

Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser was an Austrian-born New Zealand artist and architect who worked also in the field of environmental protection. His best-known work is considered Hundertwasserhaus in Vienna, Austria which has become a notable place of interest in the Austrian capital characterized by imaginative vitality and uniqueness.
The Second World War was a very difficult time for Hundertwasser and his mother Elsa, who were Jewish. They avoided persecution by posing as Christians, a credible ruse as Hundertwasser's father had been a Catholic. Hundertwasser was baptized as a Catholic in 1935. To remain inconspicuous Hundertwasser also joined the Hitler Youth.
Hundertwasser developed artistic skills early on. After the war, he spent three months at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Hundertwasser's first commercial painting success was in 1952–53 with an exhibition in Vienna.
In the early 1950s, he entered the field of architecture. Hundertwasser also worked in the field of applied art, creating flags, stamps, coins, and posters. In 1957 Hundertwasser acquired a farm on the edge of Normandy. In 1964 Hundertwasser bought "Hahnsäge", a former saw mill, in the sparsely populated Lower Austria's Waldviertel. In the 1970s, Hundertwasser acquired several properties in the Bay of Islands in New Zealand. There he realized his dream of living and working closely connected to nature. In 1979 Hundertwasser bought the vast historical garden Giardino Eden including the Palazzo Villa delle Rose, from Alexandra of Yugoslavia via his Swiss company. In 1980, Hundertwasser visited Washington D.C. to support activist Ralph Nader's efforts to oppose nuclear proliferation. Mayor Marion Barry declared November 18 to be Hundertwasser Day. In 1982 Hundertwasser's only child, his daughter Heidi Trimmel, was born.
Hundertwasser was buried in New Zealand after his death at sea on the RMS Queen Elizabeth 2...

Sister Corita Kent Original Serigraph, 1970, “To Believe in God”
By Corita Kent
Located in Phoenix, AZ
Original serigraph by sister Mary Corita Kent (1918-1986).
Titled “To Believe in God” or “Rules are Fair.” Created 1970. Measures 23 x 22 ½. Frame 29 1/4 x 29 1/4
Poem quoted: “Rules are Fair” by Ugo Betti (1892-1953) Italian judge, author, poet and playwright.
Ed: 200. Signed Lower Right. Numbered and titled lower left.
Kent was a nun and art teacher at Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles. Her departure from the school (and the order) in 1968, was partially related to tension between the order and the church over the progressive reforms of the Vatican II movement, but it was also timed with her own artistic commitments and rising renown.
Throughout the 1960s, she made radio and TV appearances and lectured around the country. Before Warhol made the medium famous, she was working in serigraphy (screen-printing) because it could be cheaply mass-produced and widely disseminated.
Her lively, colorful works speak through graphic simplicity as they combine Bible verses, brand logos, literary quotes, and even Beatles lyrics...
