This is an original 19th century hand-colored McKenney and Hall lithograph of a Native American entitled "Not-Chi-Mi-Ne, An Ioway Chief, No. 91", published by Rice, Rutter & Co. in 1865. This original McKenney and Hall lithograph is presented in a cream-colored mat, suitable for framing with a protective clear sleeve. The mat measures 13.88" x 11.75" and the sheet measures 10.63" x 7.38. There is a spot in the lower left margin and tiny faint spots in the periphery, but the print is otherwise in very good condition. Col. Thomas J. McKenney was Superintendant of The Bureau of Indian Affairs from 1816 until 1830. He was one of a very few government officials to defend American Indian interests and attempt to preserve their culture. He travelled to Indian lands meeting the Native American leaders. This artwork titled "Iris" 1998 is an original color lithograph on Wove paper by noted American artist Gary Bukovnik, born 1947. It is hand signed, dated and numbered 109/200 in pencil by the artist. The image size is 10 x 9.75 inches, sheet size is 14.75 x 13.5 inches. It is in excellent condition, the colors are fresh and bright, has never been framed. About the artist. Born and educated in Cleveland Gary Bukovnik has lived in San Francisco for over 25 years. Primarily using the mediums of watercolor, monotype, and lithograph, Bukovnik creating colorful floral images of great depth and intensity. Bukovnik collaborates with Trillium Press, whose owner and master printer, David Salgado, studied at the Tamarind Workshop, formerly in Los Angeles. In 2003, the American Academy in Rome invited Bukovnik to attend the academy as a Visiting Artist for six weeks. He was asked to attend a second session in February 2005. In 2001, he was selected to create a poster for the prestigious List Collection, which creates posters to commemorate programs at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York. Lincoln Center past contributors have included Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Alex Katz, Elizabeth Murray, and Donald Sultan. Signature: Signed, dated, titled on the reverse Condition: Good This mid century work by Paul Van Hoeydonck is a direct and strong composition, like so many of Van Hoeydonck’s Planete works. It measures 48” x 48” and is a mixed media composition. It is a composition on masonite or a similar material. There is flat black and gloss black paint. Perhaps the gloss is lacquer. The surface is highly textured. The black areas have small finish nails, lying flat, attached to the surface. The other areas have sand or some other particulate in the paint. It is signed, titled and dated on the reverse. The date looks like “1961” but it could be “1969.” Please see pictures. Stylistically, this work looks very much like his work from 1961-1962. The piece is in good condition. There is a faint scratch in the upper left and some very small chips on the edges. Please see pictures. There also might be very, very light surface dirt throughout. This is an 18th century engraved portrait of Brooke Cobham, a nobleman in King Henry VIII's court, created by Francesco Bartolozzi (1728–1815), after a drawing by Hans Holbein the Younger (1497- 1543) in the 16th century. Holbein was the official artist in the court of King Henry VIII. Bartolozzi used both etching and stipple engraving techniques to create the work which was then was printed in color on pink paper and hand finished with watercolor. It was published by John Chamberlaine in London in 1793 in "The Book of Imitations of Original Drawings by Hans Holbein in the Collection of His Majesty". Sir George Brooke, Baron Cobham (1497-1558) was a prominent member of King Henry VIII's royal court. He became a member of parliament in 1529 and served as a peer in the trial of Queen Anne Boleyn, which resulted in her beheading. He was rewarded for his political and military service to King Henry and Britain with land, castles and former monasteries and was made a Knight of the Garter, a prestigious membership limited to the king and a very limited number of prominent British subjects. As a member of the Privy Council following the death of young King Edward VI (Henry VIII's son), he fell out of favor when he signed a ruling disinheriting both of Henry VIII's daughters, Mary and Elizabeth, in favor of Lady Jane Grey...

Coming from a very western tradition in Wyoming, John Maxon developed an expansive view of nature. Moving eventually to the San Francisco Bay area, John's delight in the effects of light and color led him to the decision to become an artist at the young age of 15. His natural ability was encouraged, and at 16 he began figurative art classes with Howard Brodie, the artist well known for his WWII correspondence, drawings and the Watergate trial drawings.
