Born November 8, 1902 in Kecskemet, Hungary, the child of Mihaly and Maria Ladanyi, Emory Ladanyi moved with his family to Eger, a town famous for its good wine. He studied at the High School of Science and Art. At fifteen, he discovered anatomy in a textbook and began to consider a career in medicine, and was accepted into the Medical School of The University of Budapest to become a medical student. He received his doctoral degree in 1927 and did his residency in dermatology in the largest hospital in Berlin, then one of the most prominent dematology centers of Europe. In Berlin, he was especially impressed by the works of Edvard Munch, forerunner of German Expressionism, who exerted a lasting influence on his work. Following medical residency in Vienna, he was also impressed by the works of Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Kokoschka. In 1928 he returned to Budapest to continue postgraduate studies, also advancing his art education. His many friends were among the avant-garde poets and writers of that time. In March 1929, he arrived in New York. June of that year, he passed the medical boards, and in September received his license to practice medice in the State of New York. Outside of the medical profession which enabled him the livelihood to continue to paint, he moved exclusively in avant-garde circles of New York City. Al Díaz’s career spans five decades. Born and raised Puerto Rican in New York City, by age 15 he was an influential first-generation subway graffiti artist known as “BOMB-ONE.” His friendship and artistic collaboration with high school schoolmate Jean-Michel Basquiat on SAMO, (a late 70s Avant-garde graffiti tag project) has been noted often in contemporary art history. Díaz later contributed percussion to numerous musical recordings and performances, including Basquiat’s historic 1983 record, “Beat Bop,” (considered to be one of the earliest hip-hop albums). Díaz is sought-after as an expert of New York City counterculture art. He appears often in publications, as a highlighted speaker for a variety of panel discussions at universities and museums (including Smithsonian Institution, the Brooklyn Museum, The New School and Christie’s Education), and has been featured in several films, including Boom for Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat, BBC’s American Masters — Basquiat: Rage to Riches and Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child. In 2018, Díaz authored "SAMO …SINCE 1978", an in-depth, color illustrated history of the street art legacy that he began with Basquiat in the late 70s. A notebook that Díaz made with Basquiat in his teens is currently held in the collection of the Yale University Beinecke Library.

Appointed to Paris, Henry Prinet lives with his family on rue Bonaparte just a stone's throw from the Ecole des Beaux - Arts, to which René - Xavier seemed destined. His father, an amateur painter (a Madonna with Child is kept in the church of Suaucourt, Haute-Saone), is willing that his son acquires an artistic training and he makes him receive the advice of the painter Louis Charles Timbal, strong employee for decorations of the churches of Paris. By his maternal grandmother, René-Xavier Prinet is related to the painters of the Court Hubert Drouais (1699-1767) and François-Hubert Drouais (1727-1775). Around 1880, he began his education as a painter by being admitted into the studio of the painter Jean-Léon Gérôme. He stayed with the master until 1885. He then became associated with the Frankish painters Georges and Lucien Griveau, Antonio de La Gandara, classmates at the Beaux-Arts, Louis-Auguste Giradot, Felix Desgranges and Jules-Alexis Muenier. At the same time, he studies at the Julian Academy. His picture Jesus Child is his first painting accepted at the Salon of French Artists in 1885. He exhibited at this Salon until 1889. At that time he became associated with a group of young painters called the Black Band : Lucien Simon, André Dauchez, René Ménard and Charles Cottet. He became a professor at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he created and directed the first workshop for women artists. In 1891, he received an order from the State for the decoration of the Palace of the Legion of Honor: The Four Seasons. His sketches are accepted. The same year, he exhibited in Paris at the Durand-Ruel gallery with Albert Besnard , Jules-Alexis Muenier and Henri Fantin-Latour. One of his most famous works, The Kreutzer Sonata, is exhibited in 1901 at the exhibition "Contemporary French Art" in Stuttgart where it is sold to the Prince Regent of Bavaria . The year 1904 sees the creation, with Lucien Simon and Antoine Bourdelle , of the workshops of the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. In 1909, he illustrated Rene Boylesve's Young Girl. In 1913, he was named secretary of the National Society of Fine Arts. He travels to the United States as a jury member at the Carnegie Institute exhibition in Pittsburgh. His paintings The Cavaliers and Interior dining room are presented on this occasion. He frequented the Sundays of Besnard, rue Guillaume-Tell. Prinet painted the reception of Albert Besnard at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1912.
