Epiphany 6 - bold colourful, geometric abstraction, modernist, acrylic on canvas
By Burton Kramer
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Canadian modernist painter Burton Kramer finds inspiration for his work in the lyrical rhythm of music. Geometric shapes—rectangles, squares, and lines in complementary shades of orange, turquoise and hot pink pop against a chocolate brown background. Kramer explores the language of visual forms and sound much like the 20th century European painter Wassily Kandinsky, renowned for his experiments with colour and music. “My paintings reference dancing feet, jazz, bebop, swing, baroque and folk music...

The James Bond Archives. Art Edition ‘Casino Royale’, 2006
By TASCHEN
Located in Toronto, ON
Shaken, Not Stirred The most complete account of the making of the James Bond series, in an Art Edition signed by Daniel Craig and 007 producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli Limited Art Edition (No. 1–500), numbered and signed by Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli with the print Casino Royale, 2006 by Greg Williams. The museum-quality print on archival paper is numbered and signed by Greg Williams. It shows Greg William’s iconic shot of Daniel Craig as James Bond. The image was used for the Casino Royale (2006) teaser poster, and captures the allure of Bond. “Bond, James Bond.” Since Sean Connery uttered those immortal words in 1962, the most dashing secret agent in the history of cinema has been charming and thrilling audiences worldwide. This impeccably British character created by author Ian Fleming has starred in 25 EON-produced films, played by six different actors over five decades. EON Productions opened their archives of photos, designs, storyboards, and production materials to editor Paul Duncan, who spent two years researching over one million images and 100 filing cabinets of documentation. The result is the most complete account of the making of the series, covering every James Bond film ever made, beginning with Dr. No (1962) and ending with the 25th film No Time To Die(2021), including the spoof Casino Royale (1967) and Never Say Never Again (1983). The wealth of previously unpublished photography, set designs, storyboards, and production memos is supplemented by an oral history recounted by over 150 cast and crew. From producers to stuntmen, directors to production designers, these personal narratives relate the true inside story from the Bond sets, offering outstanding insight into the personalities and processes behind the most successful and longest-running film franchise in cinema history. This book is a comprehensive tribute to the legend of James Bond. The updated edition includes exclusive photography and new interviews with Daniel Craig, director Cary Fukunaga, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, and many others, revealing the full story behind the making of the emotionally charged No Time To Die. Signed by Daniel Craig, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli Limited edition of 500 numbered copies Each comes with an archival, museum-quality photo print Casino Royale, 2006, signed by photographer Greg Williams. Hardcover book in clamshell box with print in portfolio Made with unrestricted access to the Bond archives, this XXL tome recounts the history of James Bond in words and pictures Among the 1,100 images are many previously unseen stills, on-set photos, memos, documents, storyboards, posters, and designs, plus unused concepts, and alternative designs Behind-the-scenes stories from the people who were there: producers, directors, actors, screenwriters, production designers, special effects technicians, stuntmen, and other crew members Includes every Bond film from Dr. No (1962) to the 25th film No Time To Die (2021) The editor Paul Duncan is a film historian whose TASCHEN books include The Star Wars Archives, The James Bond Archives, The Charlie...

Last Minute Shopping #2, digital print, archival paper, generative art
Located in Toronto, Ontario
"Last Minute Shopping #2" is a digital print on cotton rag, acid-free paper by generative artist Stephen Boyd. Including the wood frame it measures 24x24". Based on mathematical computation, the artist has programmed thousands of lines into two grid patterns that reveal textured backgrounds, moiré effects and organic shapes that allude to motion and plant growth (among other natural processes). Stephen makes generative art (not AI art) based on Organizing Principle Ratios and Emergent Structure – all of which means the artist is programming coherent visual relationships and compositional structures into every artwork. Simple rules, repeated millions of times, result in hypnotic, beautiful images. From Stephen – "I consider myself a composer for an infinite orchestra, where each instrument plays a single note that endlessly ricochets off its neighbours." Stephen Boyd is a Toronto-based artist using code as a medium for creating prints and interactive works since 2003. For the last 20 years, Stephen has explored the idea of simple patterns written in code, repeating millions of times to create beauty through emergent structure. His work for the last five years has focused on creating generative art for print and screen. Stephen's prints and installation work have been exhibited in solo and group shows. He has presented at the Marshall McLuhan Festival, Siggraph, and held an Artist-in-Residence position at Centennial College. Stephen’s influences range from early generative artists of the 1960s such as Manfred Mohr and Vera Molnár...

Weegee "Distortion: Stripes"
By Weegee
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Innovative, provocative, inimitable - these are just a few of the words to describe America's boldest photographer. Arthur Fellig, better known as Weegee (1899-1968) was a ground-breaking, successful (and notorious) photojournalist. His images shot on the streets of New York City are iconic and influential. In the 1930s he became the first New York City press photographer to obtain permission to install a police radio in his car. This allowed him to follow the city's first responders and to document their duties; responding to fire, crime, debauchery and of course, murder. By the early 1940s Weegee was experiencing fatigue with crime reportage. Ironically, this was also the point when he finally began experiencing professional validation and acclaim, to the point of being a minor celebrity. Notably in 1941 he was included in The MoMA's seminal "50 Photographs by 50 Photographers" (curated by Edward Steichen). The museum would also acquire five Weegee photographs...

Crazy Daisy
By Sheila Grabarsky
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
I watched as this painting revealed itself, color layer by color layer. My process is of reduction; subtracting as canvas gets full of expression until a cohesive composition evolves.

About the Artist
Sheila Grabarsky is an abstract painter living and working on the New Jersey shore. She is known for her bold and expressive gestural brushstrokes, juxtaposition of contrasting colors, and spontaneity in her paintings. Sheila’s animated paintings have been compared to those of Vasily Kandinsky, the Russian painter and art theorist referred to as “the father of abstraction.” And, like Kandinsky, the essence of inner beauty and the potency of the human spirit are key factors in her art. Fun fact: Sheila’s work is featured in a 2016 movie called American Pastoral...

Scribble Cat
By William Kentridge
Located in Toronto, Ontario
William Kentridge (b. 1955) is an internationally acclaimed South African artist renowned for his dynamic prints, drawings, large-scale installations, and animated films. Kentridge balances universal experiences with the complexity of South African political history and society. Born in Johannesburg to two prominent lawyers active in anti-apartheid efforts, Kentridge’s proximity to the dissolution of apartheid gave him a unique social sensitivity. His upbringing would shape the socio-political lens that informed his work as an artist. Kentridge is somewhat of a polymath. Having pursued formal education across politics, fine art, miming, and theater, it comes as no surprise that his work cannot be contained to the bounds of a single medium. Charcoal and ink are often his first tools for creation. The density, darkness and texture of the medium is instantly recognizable throughout his oeuvre.. Click here to learn more about Kentridge’s artist process from inside his Johannesburg studio. "Scribble Cat" is a paradigm of Kentridge's work and is instantly recognizable for its strong aesthetic and composition of layered pages. Kentridge's interest in cats stems back to his childhood when the prominent South African artist Cecil Skotnes...

Textured Contemporary Abstract Painting Winter in the City II
Located in Toronto, ON
Recycled industrial press ink lends Latour's work a saturation of colour and textural detail that is unique to the medium. Through careful manipulation he is able to craft paintings that have intricate coral-like surfaces. 'Winter in the City II' is the second of a pair of pieces that evoke the bustle of a city with the whiteout of a winter's day. This piece evokes David Milne's style of using white space to represent the season while Latour's signature colour saturation comes across in the bold orange and green accents through the piece. New York Life
By Joanne Tod
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Joanne Tod (b. 1953) is a renowned Canadian painter acclaimed for her unwavering approach to realism, technical precision, and critical wit. She is also one of the country's most celebrated living portrait artists. Tod has frequently depicted institutional buildings such as banks, museums, and post offices to explore the architecture of authority and trust. These essential urban institutions shape our lives whether we acknowledge them or not. In her paintings, decorative elements such as columns and classical façades convey importance and permanence, while demanding our respect or even dependence. Tod highlights the aesthetic characteristics of these edifices, showing how power can be conveyed through beauty and awe. This painting is a portrait of the New York Life Insurance building, located at Place d'Armes in Old Montreal. The city was once known as a powerhouse of commerce, particularly in the 19th century, with most of the corporate headquarters based in this area. At the time of completion, circa 1899, this building was the tallest structure in the city and one of the most prestigious office buildings. Today this structure remains impressive, standing out with its striking red sandstone exterior, elegant clock tower and lavish interior. Tod is originally from Montreal, so her Place d'Armes paintings have a special resonance for her. See another painting from the series here. Tod captures the decorative features of the historic building in "New York Life." Painting in her signature realist style, she treats each surface with care, applying thin layers of paint to amplify the brighter hues. The veined marble...
