Garden - Off-Print # 2 - Roma 1980 - Minimalist Black White Photography
By Jörg Krichbaum
Located in Brussels, BE
Artwork sold in perfect condition - Off-Print # 2 (Roma 1980) from the portfolio Garden 2 (Coffret Prestige # 9) This image was captured on film (1980) The selected negative was printed on Baryta paper by the author and then limited digital reproduction printed later (2021) on fine art paper Photo Rag Baryta 310 gsm for highest age resistance using pigment inks which are known for their longevity. From Germany to Portugal, from Portugal to Italy, the artist continues his research on light and its games, this time taking nature and trees as the theme. The black and white, the strong intensity of the contrasts, the immobility that seems to emerge from them, all combine to suggest that the vegetation has also mineralized, frozen, under the ascetic gaze of the artist. But put together, close together (which is the very principle of Jörg Krichbaum...

The two booksellers, Roma 1968 - Full Framed Black White Photography
Located in Brussels, BE
Artwork # 1 on 5 sold in perfect condition Limited Edition of 5 + 2 AP The artwork is mounted on dibond and fixed in American floating box (black metal frame) The two booksellers, Rome (1968), both very elegant in jackets and ties, on their way to put their cart of books at the market. Artwork printed on baryta paper 310 grs museum quality pigment inks, limited edition of 7 copies in total Brussels Art Edition is the custodian of the archives of the great Italian photographer Fabrizio La Torre. For almost 10 years, long and meticulous work has been carried out to restore these negatives and present these photos to collectors and the public. This year, we have practically completed the "Rome" file, this city where Fabrizio was born in 1921, where he spent a large part of his life, and where he was passionate about the daily life of its inhabitants in this period. 1950s-60s. Like all the films of post-war Italian neorealist cinema, La Torre was able to capture these moments of sincerity and simplicity in a city that had not yet been transfigured by modernity. While a few streets away, world famous actors and sexy starlets met in the rhinestones and glitter of the Dolce Vita, Fabrizio gazed into our simplest feelings, friendship, love and envy. of humour, those which truly make life sweeter and more beautiful. As a preview, we present here a selection of these never seen before photos Fabrizio La Torre (b. Rome 1921 d. Brussels 2014) was an Italian neo-realist photographer working during the period 1950-1960 who left behind a body of work focussing on three specific geographical areas: Italy, North America, which he spent several months visiting in 1955 and Asia where he lived for five years (1956-61). Fascinated by the task of capturing moments of truth and intimacy which characterise the human condition all over the world, he gives us moments of insight into life which reach out to us bridging time and distance. He holds up to us an affectionate and benign mirror, always knowing, sometimes amused but never mocking. In 1965, success came knocking at his door: he was offered the possibility of exhibitions and publication but he turned it down for reasons he never fully explained. The most we can do is note that this was also the time when the immense talent and historical importance of the photographic works, produced a century earlier by his grandfather Enrico Valenziani, were discovered. This may have made him feel he could not compete, particularly as he came from a family which was possessed of multiple artistic talents but in which no-one claimed to be an artist. Perhaps he saw himself as “a photographer” who was just the grandson of one of the founding fathers of Italian photography...

Au chic Parisien - Off-Print # 1 - 1981 - Minimalist Black White Photography

Located in Brussels, BE
Artwork sold in perfect condition - Off-Print # 1 from the portfolio Au Chic Parisien (Coffret Prestige # 8 on 1stdibs) This image was captured on film (1981) The selected negative was printed on Baryta paper by the author and then limited digital reproduction printed later (2021) on fine art paper Photo Rag Baryta 310 gsm for highest age resistance using pigment inks which are known for their longevity. In a text devoted to him, evoking these seemingly silent photos of Krichbaum, one critic used the term "din" to define the flow of thoughts and feelings that escaped from it. In this too quick glimpse of Paris, the artist creates a dialogue between the white glass balls of a hotel chandelier with two ostrich eggs in the window of a fashionable decorator, while the fashion models, scattered at will shops and seasons, endless stories are exchanged. Nebbia mattutina, 1961 - Contemporary Photorealist Black White Photography
Located in Brussels, BE
Print called "Art 2014", format 42 x 60 cm. SERIES OF 5 PRINTS + 2 AP Artwork sold in perfect condition During the 15 year period in which Fabrizio La Torre dedicated himself to photography, he travelled in Italy, in Europe, North America and Asia. From wherever he went he brought back photos depicting the human condition, universal in meaning, full of emotions, with which he empathised. In order to make it easier for collectors and enthusiasts to get to grips with these works, we have opted for grouping together a set of 5 photos taken in a specific place under the heading “First Impressions”. Today First Impressions of Thailand where Fabrizio lived from 1956 to 1961, working as an administrative director for an Italo-Thai undertaking which had been contracted to restore the navigability of the Chao Praya, the great river which flows through Bangkok ”Nebbia mattutina “, morning mist fades slowly around the Temple of the Golden Mountain, (Wat Saket). The temple emerges from the mist like a gigantic liner in this tree-filled park where, in former times, a community of artists and craftsmen dwelt. A bicycle taxi (tuk tuk...

Louis Armstrong smoking a cigarette, Berlin 1965
Located in Cologne, DE
This striking black-and-white photograph captures jazz legend Louis Armstrong during a candid moment at a press event in 1965. Armstrong is seen seated at a table, a cigarette delicately held between his fingers, as he gazes thoughtfully off to the side. His signature bow tie and formal attire reflect his polished style, while the slight smile on his lips hints at his charismatic personality. The image is framed by soft-focus floral arrangements in the foreground, which enhance the intimate setting. Microphones surround him, indicating his role as a prominent figure in the music industry. The lighting subtly highlights the contours of his face and the gleam of his watch, emphasizing the depth of character and experience in his expression. This photograph not only embodies Armstrong's iconic status but also captures the essence of his lively spirit and dedication to jazz music. About Tassilo Leher: Born in the dark years of World War II, Tassilo Leher became an icon of photographic art in divided Germany. As the son of war correspondent Karl Leher, whose lens captured moments of contemporary history, he was born in 1940 in the heart of Berlin. He shared not only the studio in the picturesque Prenzlauer Berg with his father, but also the mysterious world of the darkroom. While Karl Leher, an early riser, made use of the morning hours, Tassilo found his creative flow only by midday, often working late into the night. His camera knew no bounds: from the dazzling stars of East German show business like Phudys, Karat, Hildegard Kneef, Manfred Krug, Bubi Scholz, to international greats such as Dean Reed, Karel Gott, Jiri Korn, and Costa Cordalis – all found themselves in front of his lens. The Friedrichstadt-Palast and numerous film sets became his stages, where he played with light and shadow to perfectly frame famous...
