Broadway - Photorealistic Oil and Enamel Painting on Canvas
By Ross Tamlin
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Ross Tamlin's unique photorealistic compositions merge traditional painting methods with modern industrial techniques to create captivating works of art. Using layers of oil and enamel paint, Tamlin creates an illusion of corrugation that adds depth and texture to his pieces. His use of industrial imagery and found objects is a nod to contemporary art, while his bold color palette and incorporation of text is a nod to the Pop Art movement. Tamlin created this one-of-a-kind, vibrant, and colorful painting measuring 42 inches high by 36 inches wide and 1.25 inches deep with oil and enamel paint on canvas. The sides of the canvas are painted in a continuation of the front eliminating the need for framing. In addition to being signed by the artist on the front, the artwork also comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery. The certificate guarantees the authenticity and provenance of the artwork. Free delivery is available for those in the local Los Angeles area, and affordable worldwide shipping is available for US and international art collectors. In this artwork, Tamlin reworks the traditional idea of landscape painting by incorporating text and familiar places' names, such as New York neighborhoods, painted in large letters over the colorful photorealistic painted corrugated metal. This photorealistic painting by Ross Tamlin is so expertly executed that it perfectly mimics the texture and appearance of corrugated metal, even when seen in person. However, upon much closer inspection from the side at a nearly 90-degree angle, the levelness of the canvas is revealed, allowing you to appreciate the skillful brushwork of oil and enamel paint that gives the amazing illusion of depth and texture. With meticulous attention to detail, Tamlin imparts extraordinary depth to the painting, creating a finish that emulates the shine of polished metal and further enhances the piece's realistic appearance. This original artwork stands as a testament to Tamlin's remarkable talent and precision, demonstrated through the inclusion of even the smallest details, such as the masterfully painted rusty rivet holes. Tamlin's works are represented by Artspace Warehouse Los Angeles and are held in private collections worldwide, including Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Singapore, the USA, Switzerland, and France. Corporate collections include ING Bank, Babcock Brown, Barclays Bank, Saville Hotel Group, Savills Property Group, Minter Ellison, Hai Win Shipping, Allkotes Pty Ltd, Blue Scope Steel Pty Ltd, Sieper Co., A. "Untitled" Albert Heckman, circa 1950 Modernist Colorful Still Life With Fruit
By Albert Heckman
Located in New York, NY
Albert Heckman Untitled, circa 1950 Signed lower right Oil on canvas 24 x 30 inches Albert Heckman was born in Meadville, Western Pennsylvania, 1893. He went to New York City to try his hand at the art world in 1915 after graduating from high school and landing a job at the Meadville Post Office. In 1917, at the age of 24, Heckman enrolled part-time in Teachers' College, Columbia University's Fine Arts Department to begin his formal art education. He worked as a freelance ceramic and textile designer and occasionally as a lecturer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In the early 1920s, at the age of almost 30, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia Teachers College. He was especially impacted by his instructor at Columbia, Arthur Wesley Dow. After graduating, he was hired by the Teachers' College as a Fine Arts instructor. He stayed with Columbia Teachers' College until 1929, when he left to attend the Leipzig Institute of Graphic Arts in Leipzig, Germany. Isami Doi (1903-1965), who was born in Hawaii, was arguably his most impressive student at Columbia. Doi is now regarded as one of the most prominent artists hailing from Hawaii. Heckman became an active member and officer of the Keramic Society and Design Guild of New York in the 1920s as part of his early commercial art career. The Society's mission was to share knowledge and showcase textile and ceramic design exhibits. In 1922, Heckman married Florence Hardman, a concert violinist. Mrs. Heckman's concert schedule during the 1920s kept Albert and Florence Heckman apart for a significant portion of the time, but they spent what little time they had together designing and building their Woodstock, New York, summer house and grounds. A small house and an acre of surrounding land on Overlook Mountain, just behind the village of Woodstock, were purchased by Albert and Florence Heckman at the time of their marriage. Their Woodstock home, with its connections, friendships, and memories, became a central part of their lives over the years, even though they had an apartment in New York City. Heckman's main artistic focus shifted to the house on Overlook Mountain and the nearby towns and villages, Kingston, Eddyville, and Glasco. After returning from the Leipzig Institute of Graphic Arts in 1930, Mr. Heckman joined Hunter College as an assistant professor of art. He worked there for almost thirty years, retiring in 1956. Throughout his tenure at Hunter, Mr. Heckman and his spouse spent the summers at their Woodstock residence and the winters in New York City. They were regular and well-known guests at the opera and art galleries in New York. Following his retirement in 1956, the Heckmans settled in Woodstock permanently, with occasional trips to Florida or Europe during the fall and winter. Mr. Heckman's close friends and artistic career were always connected to Woodstock or New York City. He joined the Woodstock art group early on and was greatly influenced by artists like Paul and Caroline Rohland, Emil Ganso, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, Andre Ruellan, and her husband, Jack...

Thanks to the Virgen of San Juan, Ex-Voto, Retablo, Painting on Metal, Mexico
Located in Houston, TX
This retablo was purchased by the gallery in Mexico City. I knew the family that sold the retablo to me. It is dated 1853 because the story on the retablo was passed down for generations and a relative of Lourdes painted it in her memory. The description on the ex-voto reads: "Thanks to the Virgen of San Juan de los Lagos that I have a new job with my new bosses. That they like my food and they don't mind what I prepare for them. " It is in excellent condition. It is framed behind conservatorship glass. The framed size is 14" x 15". The class should only be cleaned with ammonia free cleaner. An ex-voto is a votive offering to a saint or to a divinity; the term is usually restricted to Christian examples. It is given in fulfillment of a vow (hence the Latin term, short for ex voto suscepto, "from the vow made") or in gratitude or devotion. Ex-votos are placed in a church or chapel where the worshiper seeks grace or wishes to give thanks. The destinations of pilgrimages often include shrines decorated with ex-votos. Ex-votos can take a wide variety of forms. They are not only intended for the helping figure, but also as a testimony to later visitors of the received help. As such they may include texts explaining a miracle attributed to the helper, or symbols such as a painted or modeled reproduction of a miraculously healed body part, or a directly related item such as a crutch given by a person formerly lame. There are places where a very old tradition of depositing ex-votos existed, such as Abydos in ancient Egypt. Especially in the Latin world, there is a tradition of votive paintings...

Pieces Collage, vibrant mid-century abstract expressionist black, pink red
By Richard Andres
Located in Beachwood, OH
Richard Andres (American, 1927-2013) Pieces Collage, c. 1965 collage on paper 14 x 18 inches Richard Andres was born in Buffalo, New York in 1927. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1950, he was immediately drafted and served for two years in the army as a mural painter. He received his Master of Arts from Kent State in 1961. A frequent exhibitor at galleries and museums and winner of multiple May Show prizes, Andres taught art in the Cleveland Public Schools for 28 years, as well as teaching the University of Buffalo, the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Western Reserve University. Very little in Richard Andres’ childhood would have predicted his love of classical music, mid-century-modern architecture and certainly not his lifelong passion for art and in particular abstract art. Richard’s father, Raymond, had no more than a third-grade education, and his mother, Clara, was one of thirteen children – only three of whom lived into adulthood and none of whom attended high school. They lived, when Richard was a boy, in a dingy area of Buffalo, NY in a walk-up apartment situated above a tavern. Raymond and Clara supplemented the income from their factory jobs in the bar downstairs with Raymond playing ragtime on the piano and Clara serving drinks. This often left Richard and his two older brothers at home alone to fend for themselves. The two older boys, Raymond and Russell, were - unlike Richard- rather rough and tumble and entertained themselves with stickball, boxing and the like. Richard, on the other hand, from a very young age liked to draw, or better yet even, to paint with the small set of watercolors he received for Christmas one year. Paper, however, at the height of the depression, was hard to come by. Luckily, Clara used paper doilies as decoration for the apartment and Richard would contentedly paint and then cut up doilies, gluing the pieces together to create collages. At eight-years-old, he discovered the Albright-Knox Museum (then known as the Albright Art Gallery) and spent several hours a week there studying the paintings. He was particularly fond of Charles Burchfield‘s landscapes, enamored with their ‘messiness’ and thinking that they somehow captured more ‘feeling’ than works he was previously familiar with. For his tenth Christmas, he asked for and received a ‘how-to’ paint book by Elliot O’Hare. Through this self-teaching, he assembled the portfolio needed for acceptance to Buffalo Technical High School where he studied Advertising Arts. In his Junior year, he was encouraged to enter a watercolor painting, “Two Barns,” in the national 1944-45 Ingersoll Art Award Contest and was one of twelve grand prize winners – each one winning one hundred dollars. More importantly the painting was exhibited at the Carnegie Institute Galleries, which resulted in his winning a national scholarship to the Cleveland School of Art (The Cleveland Art Institute). He flourished at the art school under the tutelage of faculty members such as Carl Gaertner, as well as that of visiting artists such as William Sommer and Henry George Keller. He would say in later years that Gaertner, in particular, influenced his attitude toward life as well as art. “Gaertner,” Andres said, “believed that there was no need to be a ‘tortured artist’, that an artist should rather enjoy beauty, family, and life in general.” Free to spend his days as he chose, he wandered the Cleveland Art Museum for most of the hours he was not attending classes or painting; the remaining time was spent drinking coffee at a local hangout with art school friends – which is where he met fellow Henry Keller scholarship winner, Avis Johnson. Richard was immediately smitten with Avis, but being rather shy, it took him the entire summer of 1948 to build up his courage to ask her out. Over that summer he ‘thought about Avis’ and worked in a diner to save money. He also used the hundred-dollar prize money won in High School to visit the first Max Beckmann retrospective in the United States at the City Art Museum in St. Louis. Over a half century later he spoke of that exhibit with a reverence usually reserved for spiritual matters, “I walked in and it was like nothing I had ever seen before... the color...It just glowed.” Returning to campus in the Fall, the first thing he did was go to the coffee shop in hopes of finding Avis. He did, and she, upon seeing him, realized that she was also smitten with him. They quickly became known as ‘the couple’ on campus, and a year later, with Richard being drafted for the Korean war, they were quickly married by a Justice of the Peace, celebrating after with family at Avis’s Cleveland home. As a gift, faculty member John Paul Miller designed and made the simple gold wedding ring Avis wore for their 65 years of marriage. During those 65 years neither wavered in their mutual love, nor in the respect they shared for one another’s art. The couple lived in a converted chicken coop in Missouri while Richard was in boot camp. At the camp, he would volunteer for any job offered and one of those jobs ended up being painting road signs. His commander noticed how quickly and neatly he worked and gave him more painting work to do - eventually recommending him for a position painting murals for Army offices in Panama. Until her dying day, Avis remained angry that “The army got to keep those fabulous murals and they probably didn’t even know how wonderful they were.” In Panama, their first son, Mark, was born. After Richard’s discharge in 1953, they moved back to the Cleveland area and used the GI bill to attend Kent State gaining his BA in education. The small family then moved briefly to Buffalo, where Richard taught at the Albright Art School and the University of Buffalo – and their second son, Peter, was born. Richard had exhibited work in the Cleveland May Show and the Butler Art Museum during his art school years, and during the years in Buffalo, his work was exhibited at the gallery he had so loved as a child, the Albright Art Gallery. In 1956, the family moved back to the Cleveland area and Richard began teaching art at Lincoln West High School during the day while working toward his MA in art at Kent State in the evenings. Avis and Richard, with the help of an architect, designed their first home - a saltbox style house in Hudson, Ohio, and in 1958, their third son, Max (after Max Beckmann) was born. Richard enjoyed the consistency of teaching high school as well as the time it gave him to paint on the weekends and during the summer months. In 1961, he received his MA and his daughter, Claire, was born. With a fourth child, the house was much too small, and Avis and Richard began designing their second home. An admirer of MCM architecture, Richard’s favorite example of the style was the Farnsworth house – he often spoke of how the concepts behind this architectural style, particularly that of Mies van der Rohe, influenced his painting. Andres described himself as a 1950’s...

Holiday End - Surreal Christmas Scene, Original Oil on Canvas, Framed
By John Hrehov
Located in Chicago, IL
John Hrehov is a master at storytelling. Here, the artist presents us with a curious scene. In a sparsely decorated room albeit family portraits, a son is witnessing his father doing something very peculiar. Hrehov calls on the viewer to examine the scene more closely - asking ourselves what traits are being passed on to this innocent witness? The piece is framed in a simple white floater frame measuring 26 x 38 inches. French Surrealism Oil Painting Pierre Henry Surrealist Color Flowers in Vase
Located in Surfside, FL
Pierre Henry (1924 - 2015) Hand signed and dated '66 lower right. Dimensions: (Frame) H 19" x W 15" ; (Painting) H 13" x W 8.75" Pierre-Henry sociétaire des grands Salons à Paris et vice-président de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. PIerre Henry studied painting, the art of fresco and of etching in the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts, in Paris. Since 1950, his first exhibition, his talent led him to become one of the leaders of the French figurative expressionist school. He was of the period of Jean jansem and Pierre Serrier andBernard Buffet "I believe that the artists, painters, poets, and musicians, are our society’s prophets, its preachers. They bear witness to their anguish face to face with humanity in total confusion, which feels and knows it is threatened. At first smooth, the painting slowly acquires reliefs. The lacquer color is dazzling and the backgrounds alone make up genuine paintings. That especially sumptuous texture emphasizes their graphic precision. Smooth paint, flattened out, provides a lacquered effect, and brings to mind the great Flemish masters’ works. Of the generation of great post war French artists he has shown with Jean Pierre Alaux, Lucien Philippe Moretti, Edouard Pignon, Henri Michaux, Guy Cambier, Jean Fusaro, Mara Tran Long, Claude Mourier...
