Artist Onelio Marrero paints impressionist city scenes of everyday life. Tosa Mitsuoki was a Japanese painter, reinvigorating the Yamato style of classical Japanese painting. Yamato-e originated from interest in reproducing early Tang dynasty paintings, and was later reinvented and further refined to fit Japanese cultural perceptions in the late Heian period. Yamato, sometimes referred to as wa or kazu had become synonymous with the Tosa-ha by the Muromachi period as a way for Japanese artist to distinguish their works from those of mainland Chinese paintings, kara-e. Yamato-e incorporated various visual and literary techniques for establishing narrative. Works were not always accompanied with text and may rely on heavily on period specific visual motifs, icons, and symbols to relay a story or theme. Tosa style by the time of Mitsuoki focused heavily on depicting themes of plants and nature, famous places, meisho, the four seasons, shik, bird-and-flower, kacho. Many of these popular symbols and icons from mimicking Chinese practices, treating the original Chinese masterwork as a sort of prototype to improve upon. Popular formats for Mitsuoki's pictures were wall scrolls kakemono, or handscrolls that would be read from right to left with the accompanied story, sliding doors fusuma and folding screen panels byobu that featured up to six panels. Mitsuoki's style incorporated the depth and calligraphy techniques of ink wash brushwork similar to Song dynasty and Yuan dynasty Chinese court paintings...

About the artist:
Gabriel Dauchot was born on May 10, 1927 in Livry-Gargan 4 . Supported by the encouragement of his father, an architect, and painting from the age of fourteen 5 , Gabriel Dauchot, whose admiration goes to Maurice Utrillo and Chaïm Soutine 5 , received advice in 1940 from Émile Othon Friesz and Yves Brayer at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière , then entered the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in 1942 . He participated in Parisian Salons from his youth and was not yet twenty when the Katia Granoff 6 gallery , then the Cardo 7 gallery , organized his first personal exhibitions.
“The winner is under thirty years old” observes Claude Roger-Marx , who does not fail to note “the atmosphere of disguise which is dear to him” as well as “the muted truculence which he gives to the opaque backgrounds where sing with distinction cold grays, greens, carmines and saffron” 8 when in 1951 the prize from the Society of Collectors and Art Lovers was awarded to Gabriel Dauchot.

Addison Thomas Millar was an American painter and artist; best known for his genre scenes and Orientalist paintings.
He was born to William H. Millar and Permelia Kennedy Millar. His father had emigrated to the United States from Scotland in 1845. He grew up in Warren, Ohio. During his primary education, he took some painting lessons from John Bell, a local landscape painter.
In his late teens, he won three consecutive awards from The Youth's Companion, in their annual art contests. This prompted his parents to allow him to go to Cincinnati to take formal lessons from the genre painter, De Scott Evans...
