20th Century Italian Clear Murano Glass Figure, Sculpture by Archimede Seguso
By Archimede Seguso, Seguso Vetri d Arte
Located in West Palm Beach, FL
A vintage Mid-Century Modern Italian figure made of hand blown Murano glass, designed by Archimede Seguso and produced by Seguso Vetri D’Arte, in good condition. The clear sculpture is depicting a man in the earlys 20s with a cylinder hat. Wear consistent with age and use, circa 1930 - 1940, Murano, Italy. Base: 3.5" diameter View all Seguso Vetri D’Arte originals in our collection. Archimede Seguso was an Italian glass manufacturer and a designer born in 1909, in Murano, Italy and passed away in 1999. At the age of 11, Seguso started training and working as a glassmaker at his father's glass company. Later on, circa in 1930, he took over the family business, named Seguso Vetri d'Arte. During this time he studied the 16th century styles, such as filigrana glass, colorless blown glass, genetic manipulation of glass canes to give the form of linear patterns and plume glass, delicate, fine feather-plume glass shapes. In 1946, he founded his own glass manufacturer company in Murano, Vetreria Artistica Archimede Seguso. Seguso was one of the 20th century's master Venetian glassmakers. The Seguso Familly is an Italian Murano glasswork, manufactor founded by Antonio Filius Seguxi in 1397, in Venice, Italy. Until today, the Seguso Family...

Mirror Polished Bronze Abstract Objects by Barbara Beretich
By Barbara Beretich
Located in Palm Desert, CA
This is a stunning and rare collection of mirror polished bronze figures by Barbara Beretich from her estate. This collection contains 7 total pieces; we have 3 different figures represented. One group has 4 pieces (5" x 4.5" x 2"), one group has 2 ( 4" x 4" x 2"), and the the last is a single piece (3.5" x 2" x 2") Please see pictures. We have decided to offer this group of pieces as a collection. This is a great opportunity to have such a prolific collection of Beretich pieces; these figures will be sure to draw attention. They work well together and display well within a bowl. During her younger years in California, Beretich's family raised multiple animals including hogs, cows, sheep and horses. This was often a prominent influence in her sculpture. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a BA in art. The following year Beretich spent time in Europe where she met and became lifelong friends with French artist, Francoise Gilot.Ater Europe, she moved to Claremont CA...

Large Contemporary Japanese Woven Bamboo Sculpture Mimura Chikuho
By Mimura Chikuho
Located in Atlanta, GA
A contemporary hand-woven bamboo sculpture in an organic form by Japanese bamboo artist Mimura Chikuho (1973-). Named "Cloud on the Peak", the piece was made as one of his series in 2004. Entirely hand-woven in irregular plaiting, the artist challenged the traditional bamboo basket making and elevated it into modern abstract sculpture. The minimalist donut form resembles the hat-shaped cloud formed around the peak of the mountain (often seen on Fujisan in Japanese art). It displays a wonderful subtle undulation and irregularity in its organic shape, achieved by a mastery of the traditional technique. The irregular plaiting appears chaotic in its busy crossing patterns yet as a whole, the piece strangely quiet and introverted, demanding contemplation from the viewer. Signed "Chikuho" underneath in Kanji. The piece comes with its original storage paper box and a silk bag. Provenance: Purchased from Tai Gallery/Textile Arts now (Tai Modern) in Santa Fe. Mimura Chikuho was born in 1973 in Tokyo. He studied under Yufu Shohaku...

Cast Aluminum Cube Sculpture by Anne Van Kleeck, circa 1960s
Located in St.Petersburg, FL
An unusual cast aluminum sculpture by Anne Van Kleeck (1922-1998). A bulging cube, patinated and polished top, that can be a pedestal or side table, unsigned, numbered 2. From the artist's estate. A note about the artist: Anne Van Kleeck was primarily known for her works in cast bronze and ceramics. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University (B.A.) and Ohio State University (M.A.) and spent several years as a professor of art in Ohio and Florida. In 1957, Anne traveled to Venice, Italy to study bronze and lost wax casting, beaten iron and mosaic techniques. During that stay she employed an Italian foundry expert and together they established a small foundry on the island of Murano where they cast bronzes for her one woman show in Venice. Van Kleecks work has won multiple awards and is owned worldwide by private collectors and museums, including the Metropolitan Museum and MOMA in New York. She was contemporaries of and exhibited with Ruth Asawa, Gary Knox Bennett...

Hand-Sculpted French Cubist Abstract Sculpture in Terracotta Signed "Philip"
Located in New York, NY
This sophisticated and alluring Mid-Century Modern Sculpture was realized in France circa 1950. Executed in terra cotta with a oil rubbed bronze colored glaze, the work presents an abstract and dynamic form- bristling with verve. An elongated form rises from an elliptical base offering both smooth and curvilinear aspects as well as faceted ones concluding in a curved tongue-like appendage with a pointed end. Additionally, there is what appears to be a lug or nut cantilevering from side of the piece, suggesting metamorphosis or some kind of animatronic influence. The amorphic form recalls the highly stylized renderings of tools by Lee Lozano...

"Iridescence" Memory Jug by Michael Thompson
By Michael Thompson
Located in Chicago, IL
Based in Chicago, IL, contemporary artist Michael Thompson creates unique kites, collages and mixed media works assembled from material fragments of past and present collected in his travels. In his ongoing series of memory jugs, Thompson adorns stoneware vessels with a kaleidoscope of ceramic shards, found objects, and pocket-sized trinkets he collected over the course of his life. Also known as forget-me-not jugs or spirit jars, memory jugs are African American folk art objects that honor a loved one who has recently passed. Small tokens and mementos of the deceased are gathered and affixed to the exterior of a jug or vase, an abundance of memories that celebrates a life lived to the fullest. Michael Thompson applies this tradition to his own practice, creating tactile assemblages of this and that. Formed in the manner of collage, each jug honors the lost memories of generations past and his own memories of personally discovering each item. With varied sources for materials including Kyoto, Turkey, and Mexico, a great number of the found shards are 18th and 19th century ceramics...
