Contemporary Santa Fe Southwest Modern Southwestern style Flatweave Carpet
Located in Dallas, TX
81041 Southwest Modern Southwestern style Rug with Storm Pattern, 08'02 x 10'00. Step into the serene embrace of Native American design aesthetics, where the elegance of Contemporary Santa Fe seamlessly intertwines with the fusion of Southwestern and Desert Modern styles in this meticulously handwoven Southwestern style rug. Rooted in history, the Storm Pattern, originating between 1897 and 1911 at the Crystal Trading Post, captures the essence of rainstorms with its central rectangle, diagonal lightning bolts, and zig-zag lines—a vibrant tribute to the growing season. Within this remarkable Southwestern style rug, the interplay of contemporary Santa Fe elements and Southwestern eclecticism unfolds with captivating charm. Adorned in organic earthy tones, it weaves a narrative of warmth and sophistication against a richly abrashed brown taupe backdrop. Radiating from the center are four concave hexagons in beige forming a cross motif, complemented by beige chevron bands and small hourglass motifs that enhance the geometric harmony. At each corner, four large-scale red and beige striped geometric shapes command attention, adding focal intrigue. Framed by a sleek black border, this flatweave Southwestern style rug achieves a refined contemporary allure, seamlessly merging the comforting warmth of Desert Modern interior design with the quintessential Southwestern style. With its homage to the rugged landscapes of the Southwest, this woven wonder transforms nearly any space into an organic sanctuary for artful living in the modern era, embracing the tranquil serenity...

Late 19th Century Antique Caucasian Kazak Carpet
Located in Dallas, TX
78977 Late 19th Century Antique Caucasian Kazak Prayer Rug, 03'04 x 03'10. This hand-knotted wool antique Caucasian Kazak Prayer rug from the 1880s transports us to a time when craftsmanship and spirituality were interwoven into everyday life. With its rich blue field, adorned with a scattering of vibrant eight-pointed stars, this Kazak rug evokes the night sky, offering both beauty and deep symbolic meaning. The stars, representing happiness, shine brightly across the central field, their eight points embodying the "Star of Wisdom," a symbol of man’s potential to gain understanding through life's challenges. The Caucasus tribespeople lived an elemental life, believing that wisdom, earned through hard experiences, was the greatest possession one could obtain. At the heart of the design lies a distinctive mihrab, or prayer niche, providing a directional layout for worship. This sacred space is filled with esoteric tribal motifs, each with protective and spiritual significance. The protection amulet woven into the mihrab ward off malevolent spirits, while the cross motif, with its intersecting vertical and horizontal lines, divides the evil eye’s power into four pieces, diminishing its harmful effect. Also present is the ying-yang symbol, representing the harmonious balance between male and female energies, a reminder of the importance of unity and balance in both life and nature. The antique Kazak rug's border is equally captivating, offering its own story of protection and strength. The innermost guard band showcases a series of S-hook motifs, another ancient symbol believed to protect against the evil eye. Surrounding this, the main border features Ram’s Horn motifs, symbolizing fertility, heroism, power, and masculinity. These bold geometric forms not only add to the visual appeal of the this Kazak prayer rug but also remind the owner of the strength and vitality essential to the survival of the Caucasian people in their rugged landscape. Finally, the outermost running water guard band highlights the importance of water to life in the Caucasus. Water, essential for both people and animals, represents inner purification and renewal. The repetition of this motif underscores its significance in the tribes’ elemental lifestyle. This antique Kazak Prayer rug...

BOURDELLE top of the base, © by Bourdelle along one side. Foundry seal of A. VALSUANI CIRE PERDUE. On corner. Measures 16 x 16.5 x 5 inches. Provenance: The estate of Morton and Estelle Sosland. In Kansas City, the Sosland family name is synonymous with both giving, and the arts. Of their many contributions to the community, 'The Soslands gave one of the nation's finest private collections of American Indian art to the Nelson-Atkins' museum. The content of this auction bears testament to their keen eye and varied interests. In September 1893 Bourdelle joined the studio of Auguste Rodin. His collaboration with Rodin lasted fifteen years. In 1895, he received his first official commission, a war monument for the city of Montauban. His proposed plans, different from traditional monuments, created a scandal. Rodin intervened on his behalf, and the monument was finally erected in 1902. In 1900, Bourdelle demonstrated his independence from Rodin's style with a bust of Apollo. In the same year, Bourdelle, Rodin and the sculptor Desbois opened a free school of sculpture, the Institut Rodin-Debois-Bourdelle. One of the students was Henri Matisse, who later produced some remarkable sculpture, but the school did not last long. Bourdelle in his studio sketching Grace Christie In 1905, Bourdelle had his first personal exhibition, in the gallery of the foundry-owner Hébrand. With the support of Hébrand and the material assistance of his foundry, Bourdelle was able to make larger works and earn greater recognition. His father died in 1906, and Bourdelle changed his first name to simply Antoine, after his father. He married his second wife, Cléopatre Sevastos (1892-1972), who was of Greek origin. She and their daughter, Rhodia, became a frequent inspiration for his works.[6] In 1908, Bourdelle left the studio of Rodin and set out on his own. In 1909 he exhibited a new work, Hercules the Archer at the annual Salon of the Societé Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He began to teach at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, where his students included Giacometti, Isaac Frenkel and Adaline Kent...
