A Rare 1859 Elkington Silvered Bronze Victorian "Trophy" Centerpiece
By Elkington Mason Co.
Located in Queens, NY
A Rare and Historic 1859 Elkington Silvered Bronze Victorian Centerpiece with Cut-Glass Bowl. Presenting a magnificent Victorian silvered bronze centerpiece of unmatched rarity and importance, crafted by the renowned Elkington Mason Co., Birmingham, in 1859. This exceptional work, complete with its original cut-glass bowl, epitomizes 19th-century British craftsmanship and artistry. Hallmarked to the base, this centerpiece showcases intricate sculptural details, embodying a high level of technical prowess and aesthetic refinement characteristic of Elkington's celebrated works. The centerpiece's striking design features three meticulously rendered figures—a young hunter, a friar, and a fishmonger—each embodying elements of Victorian life and industry. At their feet, a loyal spaniel and various game highlight the naturalistic approach to the composition, enhanced by the masterful chasing and dynamic form. This sculptural ensemble rests on an elaborately decorated base, exuding both grandeur and narrative depth. Adding profound historical value are two engraved plaques. The first, dated “January 28, 1859,” reads: “Presented to William Johnson Esq. as a token of respect esteem by the workpeople in the employ of Messrs Richard Johnson Brother, Manchester.” The second, an inscription from 1941, states: “Worshipful Company of Tin Plate Workers, Alias Wire Workers of the City of London, Presented by Arthur Laurence Johnson M.A., Grandson of William Johnson, both Wire Workers, with his Daughter Eleanor Morton Johnson, a Freeman of the Company, to commemorate his Mastership 1941-42.” These inscriptions chart a rich lineage, connecting the Johnson family to pivotal moments in industrial history. William Johnson, alongside his brother Richard, assumed leadership of a wire-drawing firm in 1838, which would later become Richard Johnson Nephew Ltd. Their contributions included providing galvanized armored wire for the historic 1857 transatlantic telegraph cable...

Vintage American Western Style Leather Saddle with Weathered Patina
Located in Atlanta, GA
An American Western style leather saddle from the 20th century, with dark brown/black seat, jockey, fender, horn and lighter brown stirrups. Handcrafted in America during the 20th century, this leather Western style saddle boasts a nice patina revealing its good use. Western saddles are used on working horses on cattle ranches throughout the United States, particularly in the west. They are the "cowboy" saddles familiar to movie viewers, rodeo fans, and those who have gone on trail rides at guest ranches. This saddle was designed to provide security and comfort to the rider when spending long hours on a horse, traveling over rugged terrain. The design of the Western saddle derives from the saddles of the Mexican vaqueros...

19th Century Pair of Ben Herring Horse Racing Engravings
Located in Dallas, TX
Presenting a fabulous and very rare pair of Late 19th Century Chromolithograph Engravings after a painting by Ben (Benjamin) Herring, engraved by Charles Hunt circa 1875. These engravings are both head-titled “McQueen’s Steeple Chasings” and sub-titled “Restive At The Post” and the other, “The Run In”. Both are noted on the bottom (from left to right) as being “Painted by Ben Herring” .. “London Published Feb 27th 1875 by G.P. McQueen, 37 Great Marlborough Street, Regent Street” … “Engraved by Charles Hunt & Sons”. These engravings appear to be hand embellished with aquantint watercolors and beautifully capture 2 scenes of riders/jockey’s and their horses, in their owners colors, participating in a Steeplechase race in England in 1875. John Frederick Herring, Sr., (Benjamin’s father) was one of Great Britain’s most renowned sporting artists who did commissioned work for the Duchess of Kent and Queen Victoria. Herring’s Original aquatint, hand-colored prints are extremely popular and highly sought after. The engraving is presented under glass in its original oak frame with gilt fillets. These engravings are hugely impressive, rare and in great condition for their age! They are framed, matted and under glass. We are of the opinion that they were re-framed and re-matter in the early 20C. The frames are a bronze/gold color and the matting is a pale green cloth matting. We took them out of their frames to examine more closely and are satisfied that these are early engravings...

Early 20th Century English Wooden Golf Club Walking Stick or “Sunday Cane”
Located in Dallas, TX
This unusual antique fruitwood cane was created in England, circa 1910. The walking stick features a plain stem and a handle shaped like a golf club with a Domino bovine bone putting insert along with lead plate insert to the exterior. The club head attached to a mahogany shaft is in excellent condition with a rich walnut patina. The “Sunday Cane” originated when “the church” banned sport on a Sunday. The English gentleman would go for a walk in his fields, and when no-one was around, he would drop a golf ball on the ground and practiced his golf strokes, the handle of the cane becoming the “wood head” golf stick...
