A lovely genre painting of a woman outside a country house with a dog by Sydney Kendrick. A young woman can be seen dressed for a wintry day in a green velvet cloak over a brown dress and holds a fur muffler in her hands. She is shown walking down the snow covered stone steps of a country house followed by a black and tan rough collie.
Sydney Percy Kendrick was born on 17 September, 1874. Little is known about his early life, however he is believed to have studied art in Paris. By the early 1900’s he was living in London where he set up a studio at 3D Warwick Avenue, Maida Vale known as Fulthorpe Studios.
He began exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1903 and later at the New Society of Artists in Suffolk Street. Kendrick became known for his genre paintings featuring women and also painted portraits of well-known people including the Duke of Devonshire, Marquess of Lansdowne, Dame Sybil Thorndike, Cecil John Rhodes...

High Summer an Original Painting by Rosemary Farrer. This is one of a new series of paintings I've been working on recently. Inspired by time spent drawing and making colour studies in a Piet Oudolf designed garden in Somerset. The colours and plant shapes were beautiful as well as the way they were planted in sinuous drifts and repeated through the space. A perfect evocation of high summer. Colour is my passion, it has the power to change your mood and to evoke memories and emotions. In the words of Georgia O'Keeffe 'I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn't say in any other way – things I had no words for.
Rosemary Farrer is available online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Rosemary artists and printmaker sells with us online and in our art gallery in Stow-on-the-Wold. Rosemary paints in oils and also makes original prints. The prints are in no way copies of the paintings, they are conceived of, and made, as a response to the special and wonderful effects that can be achieved only through the various techniques of printmaking, whether it be the graphic, dynamic marks of a linocut, or the subtle tones and textures achievable in aquatint and etching. Design, composition and the use of colour are what excite her. She spends a lot of time drawing and painting outside, back in the studio, she will distil these ideas into strong graphic woodcuts, and linos or subtly textured etchings. Recent monotypes draw together the threads of her different media, with their graphic shapes and rich painterly colours. Henry Walsh artist's works are available to buy online with Wychwood art and in our art gallery. Henry Walsh was born 1978 in Norwich, England and spent his childhood in the Suffolk countryside. Henry studied art at Ipswich College in Suffolk, and then Loughborough University in Leicestershire. In 2000 he moved to London to find work that would further his art career and help to maintain his painting. In Spring 2011 Henry and his family moved from London to the High Peak in Derbyshire. Henry is now a freelance artist & designer concentrating more time to his painting. Artist and painter Henry Walsh comments “My work begins with snapshots of busy city life and by a process of elimination I refocus the image on elements that encapsulate a sober thoughtfulness."
