Moving back to Kent in her thirties Deborah taught art and returning to painting, her first love, developed her still-life painting style. Deborah works in oil and acrylics building up her paintings with layers and washes to achieve depth and richness. Pattern, texture, decoration, shapes and colour are all important elements in her work. Working from life is vital to Deborah so that she can capture the essence of her subject. Jugs and vases spill over with fresh flowers and she will often paint part of one of her abstract paintings in the background to add an extra element to the composition. Deborah’s work features vintage china and fabrics from her collections which with her mainly gentle colour palette give her work a homely, peaceful feeling.
