An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique George III English sterling silver sauce tureens with ladles; an addition to our Georgian silverware collection. These exceptional antique George III sterling silver sauce tureens have a plain rectangular rounded form. The body of each tureen is plain and embellished with an applied gadroon decorated border to the lower portion and upper rim. These impressive silver tureens retain the original hallmarked push fit covers ornamented with further applied gadroon decoration to the upper plateau in addition to the base of the impressive reed decorated handle enveloped with leaf designs to the terminals. The surface of each cover is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a falcon holding a partridge between her feet and encompassed with the belted motto 'Qui potest capere capiat', Let him who can take, take. Each Georgian tureen is fitted with two fine and original ring loop handles above an impressive lion mask ornamentation. Each tureen is supported by four impressive shaped legs with paw feet. These sauce tureens are presented with fine and impressive associated chester made, antique sterling silver sauce ladles crafted in the Hanoverian rat tail pattern by Herbert Edward Barker & Frank Ernest Barker of Barker Brothers. An exceptional and rare antique silver snuffbox reading 'PRESENTED TO St. Mr. P CAMPION, 1st Bn 19th Foot, by His, BROTHER SERJEANTS, As A Mark of Their, Sincere Regard.' in its original shaped fitted case and made by Cronin & Wheeler, Birmingham in 1847. The snuff box, probably unused, is simply stunning the cartouche shaped body engraved with rococo 'C' scrolls, engine turning and floral sprays with a hinged cover and richly gilded interior. The box has clear and crisp silver assay and makers marks to the cover and base and has date marks for 1847. Provenance: The property of a gentleman. Sergeant Major Patrick Campion was enlisted with the 19th Foot in 1838 and served in Malta, the Ionian Islands, the West Indies, Canada, the Crimea and India amongst other postings. He received a DCM at the Battle of Alma ‘for his gallant rescue, in company with a couple of his comrades, of a wounded officer of his own company, who was lying in front of the Russian line’s.’ and despite being injured in this act, he recovered and would see action at Inkerman, Redan and the siege of Sevastopol. A fine pair of vintage Elizabeth II English sterling silver two-light candelabra in the George I style; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. These fine vintage Elizabeth II sterling silver candelabra have a plain circular form, in the George I style. Each impressive two-light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms, which support two rounded waisted capitals with plain circular dished drip pans. These versatile vintage candelabra can be used as candlesticks once the arms (labra) are detached. The knopped stems are surmounted on sunken wells, to tooled decorated circular spreading bases. The filled bases retain the original leatherette covering to the underside. The base of each was made by Richard Comyns of William Comyns & Sons Ltd and the labra were crafted by William Bruford & Son; these items will have been crafted in the same year but due to the hallmarking system the bases are struck with the date letter 'd' and the labra bear 'e'. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver fruit serving set consists of a pair of fruit serving / berry spoons and a pair of grape shears. Each piece has exceptional scrolling leaf decorated handles, accented with paralleling incurved borders, in addition to bright cut engraved geometric detailing. The posterior surface of each piece is plain and unembellished. The serving/berry spoons have elongated, rounded bowls embellished with exceptional chased floral and scrilling leaf ornamentation amidst bead borders; the outer rim of each spoon has a crimped finish. The interior of each silver spoon bowl retains the original gilding. The fine pair of antique Victorian sterling silver grape shears has a hinged scissor action.
