Beautiful vintage ethnic heavyweight cloth that could be used as a stunning home accessory whether thrown over a sofa or laid on the floor as a rug, perhaps even as a wall hanging admired as a piece of artistry. Dhaka is the traditional handmade fabric of the indigenous ‘Limbu’ people of Eastern Nepal, it’s origin goes back several hundred years to the Terhathum district. It is very unique and its distinctive geometric patterns make it stand out from other ethnic cloths. The Dhaka pattern is best known in the form of a topi, a cap worn by men in traditional dress and by bridegrooms at weddings and is a symbol of Nepalese heritage. Here the soft but strong natural fibres have been woven in several charming soft colors with the visible this threads displaying a captivating texture. Ever so slightly faded in patches which add to it’s history, character and charm. No damage or restoration. This would look fabulous in a Bohemian, rustic or even traditional interior. It could also be used as a very elaborate and luxurious beach accessory in the form of a towel or bathroom matt. We have two different throws as well as some wonderful Dhaka fabric cushions (pillows) backed in Irish linen that would match. These rugs are made entirely by hand in North England. They are made using the off cuts or Selvedge from large runs of material. These off cuts would have been simply sent to landfill if they weren't saved and turned into these beautiful rugs. I am a big supporter on sustainability and traditional crafts so when I heard about these rugs I knew I wanted to get involved. So I reached out and spoke to the business owner who explained the off cuts are from high end mills, including Harris Tweed and Abraham moon. So the quality is very high. Each rug is totally unique as even if the same selvedge is used the way the pattern comes through when woven is totally different each time.
