Zoomorphic Partridge Ewer Blue French Glass Late 19th century
By Portieux Vallerysthal
Located in Paris, FR
Original zoomorphic pitcher ewer in the shape of a partridge. Beautiful item made of silver plate for the head of the partridge nicely chiseled showing the lovely texture of feathers and blown blue glass for the body part, with a handle on the back. Yellow-colored glass eyes. The Head of the partridge is mounted on a hinge forming a movable lid for the pitcher-ewer. This kind of pitcher ewer was mainly used to serve delicious alcohol or liquor with flavor and aroma, such as pear, and mirabelle plum, as it was during the "Belle Epoque" a very fashionable and refined custom. This colored blown glass was produced by the Portieux Crystal factory created in 1705, it has a written mark "Deposé" beneath the body of the ewer, french work from the late 19th century, probably from Napoleon III period. The history of this factory known as the "Portieux crystal factory" actually begins in Tonnoy in 1690. In 1698, Duke Leopold I of Lorraine granted letters patent to Sieur de la Pommeraye, owner of the premises, associated with François Magnien, holder of the know-how, the exclusivity of glass manufacturing and trade in his duchy. In 1898, the Grand Duchess of Vladimir, wife of the brother of Tsar Nicolas II, discovered the factory while on a cure in Contrexéville. She will become a frequent customer. in 1960, the company supplies many prestigious customers: Maxim's, Brasserie Lipp, Hôtel de Crillon, Le Bristol...

Dino Martens for Aureliano Toso, Pitcher, Twist Filigrana Black and White, 1950s
By Dino Martens, Aureliano Toso
Located in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, Florence
Sculptural pitcher from Dino Martens. There are 4 bands each with 12 filigrees alternated in white and black. Black is not made with smalto technique, which was developed later by Effetre International and Lino Tagliapietra. This black is done in the Classic way, with high concentration of Amethyst color. Result is a fading in amethyst that shows when light passes through the pitcher body. Piece is elegant and has black accents (foot and handle) proportions very well made. Heavy and tall. Masterpiece. I allowed myself some artistic photos with the silhouette of the pitcher showing on the shade. Please note when light is direct black is deep. Base shows punty rod attachment. No signature. Assigned to the 1950/1960s for the use of filigree in black amethyst. This shape is a classic Murano pitcher shape, Dino added his finish and updated to a modernist sculpture. Later the California born Dante Marioni...

Hexagonal Pitcher Pagliesco , Liliac Rim, including 12 water glass with red rim
By Carlo Scarpa, Venini
Located in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, Florence
Beautiful Carlo Sarpa designed pitcher glassware. Extremely light. Egg skin thickness. Very elegant and incredible to touch and weight. A perfect eclectic present or a self-gift. Base reads and other identifications, references: No label. Not possible that would carry a signature due to the glass being so thin. Production of this set continued from Carlo Scarpa direction till now. There is a possibility that these were also made under Zecchin era. It's hard to assign a decade, the only element is the use of the liliac colored rim. I am assigning it to the mid-1990s-late-20st century. There are few flaws that I tried to highlight in a picture. Need magnifying lens to find them. The color of the set is called in Murano "fumè" which is something that relates to the technique of obtaining it rather than the actual color. It's a mezzetinte color very difficult to use because it changes from dark topaz to light straw. Just added 12 water glass...
