Glazed Terracotta Tajine Soup Tureen Early 20th Century Yellow Enameled Pottery
Located in Auribeau sur Siagne, FR
Glazed Terracotta Tajine Soup Tureen – Early 20th Century – Yellow Enameled Pottery Description: This is a handmade terracotta tajine soup tureen, crafted likely in the early 20th century. It is a traditional serving piece for tajine or other warm dishes, composed of a lidded dome (cloche) and a matching base, both made from glazed earthenware. The glaze is a rich, warm yellow, giving the piece a vibrant and sunny appearance. A beautiful monogram is visible on the underside of the base, suggesting it was produced in an artisan workshop with attention to detail and craftsmanship. The handle atop the cloche allows for easy lifting, and the form of the piece is both practical and sculptural. Whether used for serving food or as a decorative accent, this object has strong aesthetic presence, ideal for interiors with a Mediterranean, rustic, or eclectic style. Key features: Early 20th-century glazed terracotta tajine tureen Yellow enameled finish with beautiful patina Composed of base + cloche + central handle Visible artisan monogram under the base Handmade with traditional techniques Decorative and functional A unique piece with strong ethnic and vintage charm Keywords: glazed tajine terracotta, yellow ceramic tajine, vintage Moroccan serving dish...

Early 19th Century French Pair of Glazed Terracotta Resin Dishes
Located in Labrit, Landes
Pair of resin dishes in glazed terracotta. In the South West of France, the country named Landes was a poor country having very few natural resources, the inhabitants lived on meager harvests whose land was manured by their flocks of sheep. The Landais also exploited the resin of the maritime pine: it was collected at the foot of the tree using a very artisanal technique which offered low yields: tapping with “crot” (from the Gascon cròt: hole). To harvest the resin, ancient resin workers dug a hole at the foot of the pine, generally between the roots, which they lined with moss. The resin obtained, if it had not crystallized on the care before arriving at the base of the pine, was full of impurities: twigs, sand, insects, and it contained very little turpentine. A first progress was to put dishes at the bottom of these holes which made it possible to collect the resin with fewer impurities, In 1844, the resin pot...

Three Large Pieces of American Diplomatic Porcelain "Fitzhugh 1815" with Eagle
Located in MOUGINS, FR
Three rare pieces of "Fitzhugh" decorated porcelain, probably from the early 20th century, marked "1815" on their base and bearing the American eagle and the "E PLURIBUS UNUM". Similar models are in the White House and have been used as diplomatic gifts and in the Embassies of the United States of America. Provenance: This set comes from the Domaine de Beaumont in Valbonne, built in the 1920s for the Carr family, and in which the Kennedys spent several summers when JFK's father was Ambassador in London (1938-1940) and after the war. Dimensions: Rectangular box: Length 21cm, Depth 10.5cm, Height 10cm Covered vase: Height 27cm, Diameter 26cm Round box: Height 12cm, Diameter 22cm. These three pieces are "decorated with a pattern called 'Fitzhugh,' which refers to a group of Chinese export porcelain with certain identifying characteristics, made between about 1780 and 1840. The decorative elements in this group include a central device—a medallion, an eagle, a monogram, or a coat of arms—surrounded by four clusters of flowers and emblems associated with the four achievements of the Chinese scholar: music, painting, analytical ability, and calligraphy. The whole is surrounded by an elaborate border, either a lattice and spearhead border, often called 'Nanking,' or an intricate design of butterflies, cellular layers, and floral motifs. Some examples that fall into this group, such as George Washington's Cincinnati porcelain, do not feature the four floral and emblem groups. The clusters and borders may be painted in blue, brown, orange, green, yellow, pink, lavender, gold, black, or gray. Fitzhugh patterns appear to have been more popular with Americans than with the English, reflecting the rise of American merchants at the time. Consequently, there is more variation in Fitzhugh china...

Blue background with stylized red flowers imitating the cloisonné technique, very common in the Japonisme ware. Attributed to Christopher Dresser, a famous designer that was working for Minton in 1867. He made very decorative designs, using very often this special shade of blue.
