Tom Ford’s tenure at Gucci was a key moment in fashion history. In 1992 the Texan designer was appointed design director, and in 1994, creative director. His aesthetic of pared-down minimalism and understated yet flirty luxury became iconic. From the house of Gucci's Fall 1994 collection, this rare retro-inspired backpack with its bamboo handle embodies Ford's design language. Early Moschino pieces designed by Franco Moschino himself – often referred to as Italian fashion's "enfant terrible" – within the short period when he launched the House of Moschino in 1983 until he passed away in 1994 are sought after and highly collectible. This treasure, like several others that are available at the Oh! Jackie storefront, comes direct from a German socialite and fashion collector so has not been on the market prior to this. This documented Spring/Summer 1991 MOSCHINO by Redwall backpack is a wonderful example of Franco Moschino's fanciful designs and captures the fun vibe that Moschino has always represented as a brand. PLEASE NOTE that I sell the matching small purse (cosmetic bag) and shopper from this collection as well. Both are available in my Oh! Jackie storefront. The lovely black leather backpack is all over appliquéd with small gold-metal-framed mirrors and various small leather and metal flowers placed around. The reverse side is plain black. Detailing the edge of the flap all the way around, along the handle and the straps are little ribbed gold-metal balls that are set so they dangle and move when you move. Out of this world! The design features an attached removable inside pocket, an internal zipped pocket with a zip charm, adjustable shoulder straps, a top handle and a magnetic fastening and drawstring top. It is made in Italy by Redwall from high-quality, beautifully soft leather and lined in black 'redwall' signed fabric. The zip charm is embossed with "MOSCHINO" on one side and "redwall 473008 (serial number) Made in Italy" on the reverse side. Comes with its original 'redwall' signed dust bag. Excellent vintage condition. Minimal signs of use.
