A Paavo Tynell "Horseshoe" Table Lamp Model 9224 in Brass
Leather, Idman 1950s
By Paavo Tynell, Idman
Located in Helsinki, FI
The rare perforated version and one of the nicest examples of the 9224 table lamps that we ever came across. This model is also known as the "horse shoe" due to the horseshoe resembling foot and other features making it resemble Thoroughbreds (see archive pictures) In a 1950s edition of the Finland House Lighting catalouge this lamp was nicknamed Thoroughbred. Now if you think that was because of the horseshoe-foot, think again.
The Thoroughbred is a hot-blooded racing horse breed known for its agility and it's physical features include a well-chiseled head, a long slim neck and a lean body. Somehow, that sounds like an exact description of the 9224 lamp. Add to that the leather harness and it's spot on.
This version has perforated funnel shape brass lamp shade...

Beautiful Bertel Gardberg Pine Doughnut Sauna Stool, Normark 1950s
By Bertel Gardberg
Located in Helsinki, FI
A "Sauna" stool designed by Bertel Gardberg in Finland in the 1950s. The stool is varnished pinewood and it has 4 parts: three legs and a round hollow seat with a hole in the middle. Simple, elegant and quite minimalistic. The piece is in great condition with signs of wear and use consistent with age. The stool is very sturdy and sits firmly in place. Although this was mainly intended as a sauna stool, it can of course be used in almost any room in the household. The design, which is based on old traditional folk stools, will stand out in any interior. As is evident from the pictures and video, no need for nails or screws here.
Bertel Gardberg (1919-2007) was a well renowned Finnish designer and a silversmith. His multiple recognitions include multiple Grand prizes at the Milan Triennale's, some prestigious Finnish honorary titles and a number of other recognitions. In the 1950s Garberg acted as the head designer for the Galeries Lafayette in...

Bronze bowls by Tapio Wirkkala Models 446-448, Kultakeskus 1970s
By Tapio Wirkkala, Kultakeskus Oy
Located in Helsinki, FI
Tapio Wirkkala designed a large number of items fo Kultakeskus OY. Materials ranged from silver to bronze and other metals.
This particular model was introduced in 1971 in a number of different sizes ranging from 160-290 mm. 48 pieces of these were given in 1978 World Champions sky competition in Lahti, Finland.
This was also officially introduced in an exhibition in London in 1972.
This design is of course very functional as well, since these bowls can be used for a variety of reasons, such as fruit bowls and so on.
These 2 pieces came from the same household, so they sustain similar patina, since they aged in the same surroundings.
The measures 25x8 cm are for the bigger bowl.. The smaller one is 16x7 cm.
The bigger bowl has beautiful darker beauty marks or vintage spots 🙂 that only come with age and use, refer to pictures please.
Rarely does a designer command such an expansive talent and career as Wirkkala did. Inspired by nature and armed with exceptional understanding of geomety and ratios, his designs literally shaped much of our daily lives.
Designs ranging from daily items such as money...
