Vintage American Hand Hooked Rug in Block Pattern
Located in Barrington, IL
Vintage American hand hooked area rug in a block pattern circa the early 20th century. The very unique and beautiful design in this vintage folk art hooked rug consists of a 4 x 6 block pattern each containing a different design. The design in this hand hooked rug is unique since half the blocks are in a geometric pattern and the other half of floral pattern The design is set on a tan color background. The colors in each block are vibrant and make them stand out. Beautiful piece of Americana folk art to be used as a table top display or a wall art. The hooked rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are made with recycled old material, often used clothing that had been cut into narrow stripes. The foundation of hooked rugs is generally burlap material which the maker uses the stenciling technique to transfer the pattern into the surface. Once the design has been transferred to burlap, it would then be filled with the recycled material stripes and more recently yarn using the hooking technique. The use of special design and the brilliant colors makes this truly an artistic piece wonderful to be used as a wall art or displayed on a table. Antique Hooked Rugs are a combination of Folk Art Creativity and Simplicity. Beautiful flatwoven rug or a kilim from the mid-1900s. The color scheme and design resemble the Navajo rugs from the Southwest US. 19th Century Persian Bidjar Runner in Rare Ivory Field with All Over Paisley
Located in Barrington, IL
This antique Persian Bidjar runner, woven in the fourth quarter of the 19th century, is a rare and highly collectible piece of textile art. Its ivory field, an uncommon and coveted feature, is adorned with stylized floral heads, interpreted as a unique variation of the paisley motif—a symbol of fertility and eternity in Persian design. The rug’s major border features a rich navy blue background, filled with colorful geometric square designs in brilliant tones of green, red, brown, and more, offering a striking contrast to the pale central field. Framing this are saffron yellow guard borders, delicately patterned with red floral heads, adding warmth and elegance. Large-format paisley elements appear throughout in beautifully balanced hues of pink, yellow, blue, and brown, showcasing the artistry and complexity of village weaving techniques that define Bidjar craftsmanship. Known for their durability and density, Bidjar rugs are often called the “iron rugs of Persia,” and this runner exemplifies that legacy with refined detail and historical richness. An exceptional choice for collectors and interior designers alike, this runner brings history, character, and fine Persian artistry into any hallway or long space. Dimensions: 3’ 2” x 13’ Date of Manufacture: 4th Quarter of the 1800s Place of Origin: Persia Material: Wool pile on a wool foundation with organic vegetable dyes Condition: Wear consistent with age and use The Persian Knot, SKU 1123 Antique Bijar Runner...
