Antique Heriz Carpet, Persia
Located in Evanston, IL
The madder red field with unusual all-over design featuring bold poly chrome palmettos linked in a trellis by blue dragon-like motifs, all within a wide deep blue flower-head and leaf main border. This rug consist of central medallions surrounded by four other nor similar medallions that incorporate a garden design, the design on top of field is not symmetrical to the bottom of the field. The rug frame geometric design is similar to the one shown in the medallions. Heriz carpets are durable and hard-wearing and they can last for generations. Part of the reason for the toughness of Heriz carpets is that these rugs were made in the area of Mount Sabalan which contains a major deposit of copper. Traces of copper in the drinking water of sheep produces high quality wool that is far more resilient than wool from other areas. Heriz rug weavers often make them in geometric, bold patterns with a large medallion dominating the field or they are all-over design. Such designs are traditional and often woven from memory. Heriz rugs are of coarse construction. The rugs range from 30 kpsi on the low end to 100–10 kpsi on the high end. It is rare to see a rug over 100 kpsi that would look like an authentic Heriz unless it is an antique silk Heriz.

Vintage Persian Baluch Salt Bag in green, red, Ivory, Brown as Tribal Wall Art
Located in Barrington, IL
Discover a truly exceptional piece of nomadic heritage with this Early 1900s Vintage Persian Baluch Tribal Salt Bag, now beautifully repurposed as unique tribal wall art. This extraordinary textile features a captivating geometric pattern rendered in a rich palette of green, classic red, creamy ivory, and warm brown. What sets this particular salt bag apart is its remarkable construction: it boasts a small Baluch piled rug woven for both the front and the back of the bag. This is a highly unusual and distinctive feature, as most traditional salt bags typically utilize a flat-woven kilim for their backing. This rare detail speaks volumes about the pride and artistry of the weaver, who meticulously created a functional piece that is also undeniably beautiful and luxurious. For tribal peoples throughout history, salt has been an indispensable and precious commodity, vital for preserving food and enhancing flavor. Its value was so profound that it often served as a form of money and payment. For desert caravans, salt was truly a life-saving spice. These specialized salt bags were originally woven as utilitarian items, designed to protect and transport this precious resource, along with other materials and goods, during the tribes' migrations between grazing lands and encampments. Due to their rarity, historical significance, and the stories they tell of a bygone way of life, these authentic tribal items have become highly collectible. Today, they are increasingly sought after as decorative arts, bringing a profound sense of history, authenticity, and design beauty to contemporary homes. This piece is an ideal acquisition for discerning collectors, interior design professionals, and anyone seeking to infuse their space with genuine tribal art and a touch of nomadic spirit. 19th Century Persian Kerman Lavar Runner
Located in Barrington, IL
This exquisite Lavar Kerman runner from the late 1800s is a true rarity—both in format and artistry. Lavar Kerman rugs, renowned for their refined floral designs and exceptional craftsmanship, are seldom found in runner form, making this piece exceptionally desirable. The allover floral pattern is rendered in a sophisticated palette of French blue, soft pink, ivory, and rich red, gracefully woven into a field of timeless elegance. Perhaps the most unique feature is the exquisite border: a flowing arrangement of vibrant red flower bouquets set against an unusually rare green background—creating a stunning visual contrast and a harmonious frame for the composition. Woven in southern Persia in the historic city of Kerman—a major cultural and artistic center along the ancient Silk Road—this runner is not only a work of textile mastery but also a piece of living history. Its delicacy, balance, and palette reflect the artistic spirit of a region long celebrated for its contribution to Persian rug weaving.
