Early 20th Century Persian Baluch Area Rug in Prayer Design in Ivory, Brown
Located in Barrington, IL
Early 20th Century Baluch Tribal Area Rug. Baluch rugs, woven by nomadic tribes across regions of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran, are celebrated for their distinctive tribal motifs, earthy palettes, and heartfelt craftsmanship, often incorporating elements reminiscent of neighboring weaving traditions.
This captivating rug features a striking prayer pattern, immediately setting it apart. What makes this particular Baluch rug exceptionally rare and desirable is its infrequently found ivory color background. This light, luminous field provides a beautiful canvas for the rug's intricate details and adds a unique brightness not typically seen in Baluch weavings.
The rug is beautifully framed by a border with unique colors and geometric designs throughout, rendered in harmonious shades of deep navy blue, warm brown, and creamy ivory. These geometric motifs, especially in the border, bear a captivating similarity to some of the tribal area rugs originating from the Southern Caucasus region, suggesting a cross-cultural influence that adds to this piece's intrigue.
Handwoven with natural dyes, this vintage Baluch tribal rug is a testament to authentic nomadic artistry. Its robust construction and timeless design make it not only a beautiful decorative piece but also a durable and functional addition to any home.

Vintage Square-Size Persian Tribal Baluch Sofreh Kilim in Brown, Dark Red, Ivory
Located in Barrington, IL
This exceptionally rare early 20th-century Persian Baluch Tribal Sofreh Kilim is a highly collectible piece of authentic tribal artistry. Handwoven by the Baluch tribes of Southeast Persia, this desirable square-format kilim was traditionally crafted for personal, ceremonial use rather than for trade, making surviving examples particularly scarce.
The kilim features a deep dark brown (chocolate) field accented by a geometric dark red border and detailed with intricate soumak weaving in alternating ivory and red. Made from natural organic dyes and fine handspun wool, the artistry and craftsmanship reflect the Baluch people's deep weaving heritage. Traditionally used at mealtimes to serve food, this kilim was carefully preserved, maintaining its superb condition over time. A beautiful and functional piece of tribal weaving, this Sofreh is an extraordinary find for collectors, designers, and enthusiasts of authentic antique textiles.

19th-Century Persian Kerman Lavar in Floral Pattern in Ivory, Burgundy, Green
Located in Barrington, IL
Observe the profound beauty and masterful craftsmanship of this magnificent late 19th Century Persian Kerman Lavar Room Size Rug. Hailing from the renowned village of Lavar, near the city of Kerman on the edge of the great desert in Southeast Persia, this rug is a testament to why Lavar carpets are world-renowned for their beauty in design and color.
This exquisite rug features a gorgeous and intricately designed central floral medallion, beautifully set against a luminous ivory color background. The central medallion, a stunning work of art in itself, is rendered in a deep navy blue and caramel with vibrant red floral designs. This focal point is surrounded by a rich tapestry of floral and paisley designs that fill the field. The paisley forms, in alternating shades of red and pink, are gracefully separated by delicate cypress trees in pale green, a traditional motif symbolizing eternal life.
The rug's captivating color combination is a testament to the artisan's skill, with a palette that includes vibrant red, serene pale yellow, and a deep midnight blue, all harmoniously woven together.
This rug is not just a floor covering but a piece of history, showcasing the masterful weaving techniques and artistic sensibilities of the late 1800s. The village of Lavar's location on the edge of the desert is often cited as a source of inspiration for the weavers to create vibrant, intricate floral designs, bringing nature's beauty into their art.

Vintage Persian Qum Rug in Allover Paisleys Pattern in Brick Red, Ivory, Blue
Located in Barrington, IL
Exquisite vintage Persian Qum Area Rug, meticulously hand-knotted in the second quarter of the 1900s. While Qum is renowned for its exceptional silk rugs, this wool masterpiece showcases the region's mastery in complex designs and vibrant palettes.
This rug features a highly unique and desirable all-over pattern of wavering vines and elegant paisley forms, gracefully set against a rich brick red color field. The meandering vines softly emerge from a pale blue background, creating a subtle contrast, while the stylized paisley forms are rendered in delicate pink, classic red, and serene pale blue, adding depth and harmony to the composition.
An elegant ivory color border frames the design, adorned with its own charming meandering vine motif in a sophisticated array of blue, verdant green, classic red, and sunny yellow.
What truly elevates this particular Qum rug is its striking resemblance to the celebrated 16th-century Kerman rugs, particularly those of the famous "Alice de Rothschild's Vase Carpet Trio," which achieved record-breaking prices at a Christie's auction in 2016. The intricate design and sophisticated all-over pattern evoke the grandeur and historical significance of these treasured antique masterpieces.
