Woman with the Wings, Acrylic on Canvas by Contemporary Indian Artist "In Stock"
By Ashoke Mullick
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Ashoke Mullick - Woman with the Wings - 36 x 30 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas Inclusive of shipment in roll form. Style : Ashoke Mullick is considered one of the leading painters from the Bengal School of Art. Mullick combines a sense of satire with contemporary conditions. His paintings focus strongly on the ordinary man and the contradictions he faces. He uses colours like greens and blues to depict a largely urban India. His paintings also includes a strong focus on the ordinary person – more specifically womankind and the contradictions it faces. The artist likes to portray the contemporary age where people have lost the human touch and have become increasingly impersonal in their behaviour. As a painter, he touches on these facets where customs are not being followed and the link between now and the past is getting hazy. He's carved out a niche for himself with his juxtaposition of real and unreal imagery infusing his canvases with bold, vibrant imagination and certain energy, which is extremely appealing. Mullick has been painting for the last 30 years. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1957, Calcutta. Education : 1981 - Graduated with first class in fine arts 1981-82 - Awarded Cultural Scholarship from the Government of India under Bikash Bhattacharya...

Jogal, Tempera on Canvas, Yellow, Red, Blue by Contemporary Artist "In Stock"
By Bratin Khan
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Bratin Khan - Jogal Tempera on Canvas, 30 x 24 inches, 2018 The anecdotes and narratives of Krishna's life are generally titled as Krishna Leela. He is a central character in the Mahabharata, the Bhagavata Purana and the Bhagavad Gita, and is mentioned in many Hindu philosophical, theological, and mythological texts. They portray him in various perspectives: a god-child, a prankster, a model lover, a divine hero, and as the universal supreme being. His iconography reflects these legends, and shows him in different stages of his life, such as an infant eating butter, a young boy playing a flute, a young man with Radha or surrounded by women devotees, or a friendly charioteer giving counsel to Arjuna. He is sometimes accompanied by cows or a calf, which symbolise the divine herdsman Govinda. Alternatively, he is shown as a romantic and seductive man with the gopis (milkmaids), often making music or playing pranks. Style : Marked for the refined handling of line work and palette, his painterly compositions, reflect influences of folk art and Bengal School. The renderings are poetic and the narratives mythical, folklore-inspired or religious. His curvaceous and languid figures, often accompanied by a surrounding halo, are set amidst a natural habitat. The imagery features Buddha, Krishna, other legendry icons as well as pretty damsels and lotus flowers. Figures dominate the whole thinking process of his paintings with different subjects such as mermaids, musicians (Classical Musicians , Rajasthani Folk Singers and Baul Singers) and mythological figures appearing in his works. He was deeply influenced by the life Sri Aurobindo and thus enlightened beings. Such as Buddha, Jesus and Krishna are also a recurring theme in his Golden Man series. His focus on detail and remarkable skill over the line make his style unique. He uses a traditional method of tempera painting which goes back to the Indian miniature though the material he uses is totally contemporary. Knowledge of the wash technique further enables him to create a soft, twilight effect in his paintings. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1969, West Bengal. Education : 1993 Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting), Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan. Selected Solo Exhibitions : 2000 - Classic Source, Mumbai. 1999 - Rightlines Art Gallery, Bangalore. 1993 - Grindlays Bank Gallery, Kolkata. Euroscape -2, Mixed Media on Canvas, Red, Blue by Contemporary Artist "In Stock"
By Asit Poddar
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Asit Poddar - Euroscape - 2 - 8.5 x 8 inches (unframed size) Mixed Media on Canvas. Style : It is not enough to say that Asit Poddar is a multifaceted and greatly talented artist. Not only a gifted watercolorist, Poddar is also experienced and very well established in the fields of filmmaking, animation, photography, publishing, graphic designing and printmaking. For this artist, firsthand experience was a great source of inspiration. To look into the past - both recent and distant - is a creative process. It is this continuous flow of the past and the present that reflects richly in his paintings. In his works, you can see what he saw in his extensive travels to South Asian and European countries. You can feel the silence he felt on the mountains and revel in the world he sees through his mind's eye. His fluid lines and watercolor fills capture everything that Poddar takes in, from the vast expanse of high ominous peaks and deep dark gorges in black and white to the city of Varanasi and the river Ganges in vivid color. Human figures are missing in the paintings, but it seems like this is part of the artist's effort in his intent to leave a strong imprint in the mind of the viewer. About the Artist & his works : Education : 1980-82 : International Animation and Photography Institute, Japan 1972-77 : Government Art College, Kolkata. Selected Solo Exhibitions : 2011 : 'Mindscapes', Galerie Serafin, Vienna 2010 : 'Euroscapes', Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai 2008 : Kanishka Art Gallery, Kolkata 2007 : Educatorio della Provvidenza, Turin, Italy ; Cymroza Art Gallery, Mumbai & Chitrakoot Art Gallery, Kolkata. 2006 : Penzenau Castel, Mereno, Italy & Right Lines Art Gallery, Bangalore 2005 : Habiart, Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi & Hacienda Gallery, Mumbai 2004 : House of Lords, London, UK & Artworld, Chennai 2003 : Hacienda Art Gallery, Mumbai ; Castella Monte, Italy & Cymroza Art Gallery, Mumbai 2002 : Chitrakoot Art Gallery, Kolkata & Right Lines Art Gallery, Bangalore 2001 : Chitrakala Parisath, Bangalore ; Habitat Centre, Delhi & Artists Centre, Mumbai 2000 : Genesis Art Gallery, Kolkata 1999 : Gallerie La-Ruche, Tokyo, Japan 1997 : Kunjeon Art Gallery, South Korea 1996 : Koga Art Museum, Ibaraki, Japan & Kunjeon Art Gallery, South Korea 1994 : Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata. Sleepless Night, Dry Pastel on Paper by Artist Jogen Chowdhury "In Stock
By Jogen Chowdhury
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Jogen Chowdhury Sleepless Night, Dry Pastel on Paper 7 x 9.25 inches , 2022 The work will be shipped inclusive of framing. Signed in Bengali Style : He has immense contribution in inspiring young artists of India. Jogen Chowdhury had developed his individual style after his return from Paris. His most famous paintings are in ink, watercolor and pastel. He has painted in oil medium as well. In Chowdhury’s more recent works the sensory experiences of cloth, bolsters, sofas and the human body are cross-projected to produce an uncanny world of tran-substantiated tumescence and flaccidness. Jogen Chowdhury has been widely acknowledged to be, the master of the unbroken line. Like Léger, Chowdhury has been stirred by the linear Kalighat pat tradition, but his lines are emotive and used to express and suggest the character of a person. This is done by, distorting the form without breaking the line and in the world of young, contemporary art; distortion has been Jogen Chowdhury’s most significant impact. Perhaps, because of this, a common observation of his work is that his “people” are caricatures. The person feels familiar to the viewer but it is far more individualised – the face is imaginary but the psyche or characteristics are real. The power and beauty of his technique and line is this play between the known and unknown. In Jogen Chowdhury’s work, the figure is always in the foreground, it is primary, it conveys everything. He uses colour to give volume to his figures and the fluidity of his lines bring a sensual aspect to his forms. About the Artist and his work : Born : Born 1939 in Daharpara Village, Faridpur, Bangladesh. Jogen Chowdhury is an eminent Indian painter and considered an important painter of 21st century India. Family Background : His father Pramatnath Chowdhury was a Brahmin zamindar. Both his parents took interest in art, Jogen Chowdhury’s father Pramatnath Chowdhury painted several mythological scenes from the village theatres and also sculpted various Hindu icons. Whereas his mother was an expert in Alpana drawings. 1939-47 Jogen Chowdhury lived in a village atmosphere. And after partition in 1948, the whole family shifted. Till 1951 the whole family stayed at the police department quarter of his uncle, where on the walls Jogen Chowdhury painted his first painting, 1962 Jogen Chowdhury was employed as Designer in the Handloom Board. Education : 1955-60: Studied at the Government College of Art and Crafts, Kolkata. 1965 : He went to paris to study in Ecole des Beaux Arts, in William Hayter’s Atelier 17. Professional Experience : 1968-72 : He worked as an Art-Designer, Madras Handloom Board, Madras. 1970 : A collection of his poems were published, titled ‘Hridoy Train Beje Othey’. 1987 : Joined Kala Bhavan , Santiniketan as a professor of painting. The Melodious Love, Acrylic on Canson Board by Contemporary Artist "In Stock"
By Pradiptaa Chakraborty
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Pradiptaa Chakraborty - The Melodious Love Acrylic on Canson Board, 5 x 6 inches, 2016 Will be shipped in a roll form. The current bunch of paintings mirrors this human Chinese Chequer , which moves about life as an unguided engine ramming into edifices indiscriminately. The paintings also depict the human scrambling for sensuality and gold – digging. The use of various colours, dark and light, in Pradiptta’s work symbolize the inner somberness and fakery. The interplay of mythical and supernatural machinery has been a significant form of artistic expression in the post – modern art arena and thus is interpreted as lending authenticity to the disarray and phantasmagoria in which man landed into. Style : Colours and semi realistic approach reflect the various images of life. Life is itself a kaleidoscope of fleeting images capturing the joys and disappointments of life. Life is a Juggler’s game whereby games are played out to veil the hidden instincts of human life. The conjurer on the road juggler his paraphernalia to entertain the spectators. Such a showmanship has become the grain of human existence. But now days it has turn to different parabola, all perspective are changing like some tsunami wave pass through of our modern civilization. Present impact of canvas is great drama going on. It is a arrested split second of mythical demonstration in modern apparel in post modern globe. Tries to decipher the mythological structures and traditions of Indian art, Characters from Indian mythico-religious tradition, Traditional commentary and background pigment give the proper optimistic pulsation which is very essential for painting’s vivacity. I want to establish extraordinary encounters, represented with the utmost precision which take place on the canvas and try to procure a wonderful hallucinatory quality in which the real and the imagined merge into one. About the Artist & his work : Born : 1979. Education : 2003 : BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS (B.F.A) in Graphics from Kala Bhavana, Vishva Bharati University, Shantiniketan, West Bengal. Five years Diploma in Painting From Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata West Bengal. Group Shows : 2013 : Group Show in Chandigarh Art...

Woman Face with Braid Dry Pastel on Paper by Artist Jogen Chowdhury "In Stock
By Jogen Chowdhury
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Jogen Chowdhury Woman Face with Braid, Dry Pastel on Paper 10 x 6.3 inches , 2022 ( this is the unframed size ) The work will be shipped inclusive of framing. Selected Exhibitions : 1972, 1975 & 1978 respectively : I, III, IV Triennales at New Delhi. 1979: The Sao Paolo Biennale. 1980: The exhibitions at the Fukuoka Museum, Japan. 1982: The Royal Academy, London. 1982: The Hirschhorn Museum, Washington D.C. 1986: The II Havana Biennale. 1989: ‘Festival of India’, in Geneva. 2002: Saffron...
