Rare Garniture of George III Baskets, London, 1778, Philip Freeman
By Robert Hennell
Located in London, GB
This extremely rare and fine garniture of George III neo classical baskets were made in London in 1778 by Philip Freeman. The Baskets all stand on a square pedestal foot which is pierced with horizontal pails and roundels, as well as being engraved with prick dot designs. The Classical vase shaped main bodies are also pierced with horizontal pails and roundels and the front of each piece displays a disc cartouche engraved with a contemporary Crest. The rim and swing handle, instead of being decorated with beading, are unusually engraved with various prick dot and bright cut bands, including stylised flower heads. Each basket is in excellent condition, has a blue glass liner and is fully marked in the foot. The baskets are of a very rare decorative design and Philip Freeman was known for producing unusual baskets and pails, although his work does not survive in great quantity. These are also unusual in that they stand on a pierced foot, echoing the designs on the main body. The smaller baskets would have been used for cream and the larger ones for sugar, however it is extremely rare to find a garniture. They are almost always found singly or in pairs, in sizes. A very rare Classical garniture of outstanding quality. Measures: Height of the sugar basket, to the rim: 5.4 inches, 13.5cm. Height of the cream basket...

Antique Art Deco Silver Plated Recipe Cocktail Shaker by Mixit 20th Century
Located in London, GB
A very attractive and rare English silver plated Art Deco recipe cocktail shaker by Mixit, circa 1920 in date. The decorative Deco shaker with streamlined design, typical of the period. You roll through the cocktail recipes on the lid, before mixing and making your desired cocktail. The lid and the base bears the makers name, Mixit, and the patent number 22256/34. There is no mistaking the unique quality and design of this rare high quality piece and it is sure to add a touch of class to your next cocktail party. Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation of condition. Dimensions in cm: Height 24.5 cm x Width 9.5 cm x Depth 9 cm Dimensions in inches: Height 10 inches x Width 4 inches x Depth 3 inches A cocktail shaker is a device used to mix beverages (usually alcoholic) by shaking. When ice is put in the shaker this allows for a quicker cooling of the drink before serving. A shaken cocktail is made by putting the desired ingredients (typically fruit juices, syrups, liqueurs and ice cubes) in the cocktail shaker. Then it is shaken vigorously for around 5 to 10 seconds, depending upon the mixability of the ingredients and desired temperature. There are at least three varieties of cocktail shakers: The Boston Shaker: A two-piece shaker consisting of a 28 oz metal bottom and traditionally a 16 oz glass or plastic mixing glass. The mixing container and bottom are inserted into each other for shaking or used separately for stirring or muddling. A separate strainer, such as a Hawthorne or Julep strainer, are required for this type shaker if crushed ice is used. Without such a strainer, some bartenders may instead strain by narrowly separating the two pieces after shaking and pouring the drink through the resulting gap. The market offers now 18 oz or 20 oz container versions too. The unit is the imperial fluid ounce that is about 28,4 ml, so the bottom is about 795 ml and the 16 oz container is about 454 ml. The Cobbler Shaker: A three-piece cocktail shaker that has tapers at the top and ends with a built-in strainer and includes a cap. The cap can often be used as a measure for spirits or other liquids. The French Shaker...
