Art Nouveau Barrel Organ, Casa Viena, Oviedo, Spain, circa 1900
By Casa Viena
Located in Madrid, ES
In the frontal area presents, engraved, the name of the firm that made it, the Vienna House of Oviedo. This company was, next to the White House, the most important in Asturias dedicated to the sale of furniture and musical instruments. The company remained active until 1992, and its relevance is evident by the fact that in the 1970s it established an annual pianistic competition in Oviedo that achieved regional and national renown. This contest was the basis of the current International Symphony of Piano, based in Oviedo. On the other hand, the Vienna House had the exclusivity in Asturias of the World brand, for the sale of manubrio pianos. The mechanical piano was invented in Paris by Debain around 1850. His system was to add to a vertical...
